View Full Version : Maya particle rendering help!
Dave Hackett 05-29-2002, 09:34 PM First off, I'm new to this particle rendering deal. What I am trying to do is render out an avi of a loop of a fire I have. It's just 29 frames long. I guess it has to be hardware rendered (through the video card) and not software rendered (through the program) So when I render anything through the software it gives me the option to output it as an avi file. The hardware does not give me that option. So how do I make an avi that has been hardware rendered? This is really stupid. I hate to say this, but Maya is just a pain sometimes. I can do a flipbook all day long, but that does'nt give me anything to work with.
Help!

you'll have to put them together in a compositing or editing programm. shake, digital dusion or whatever.
but i wouldn't say that this is an option to miss. hardware rendered particles always have to put to the normal rendered images via compositing, so it wouldn't make any sense to give the option to output as avi.

I'm pretty sure both Max and Softimage XSI can all do this kind of thing in program. That being said, Premiere won't do it at all. The jpg file I produced from Maya is unrecognizable to Premiere.
So now what? Anybody? Frustration is setting in here.....:-0

try to output as a tiff or a tga (file of choice)

That ain't working either. Premiere won't recognize the files. This comes under the heading of a really stupid problem, I think. Anybody out there do anything like this, and how? Better still, by SGI 320 does'nt have a hardware buffer to render out particles, so I have to use my Dell instead. SGI/Alias wavefront, now those boys do some wierd crap!

i do some work w particles.. and yes the best way is via compositing (no doubts about that) u allways have to teak particles to get the right look... anway... iff premiere isnt reading ur files try to convert them on the fcheck... (open the animation. and then save animation "name.###" and ur images will be numebered properly and make sure that they are targas or tiffs,.. then import it on (after fx) u need layers to comp it w the bg video and there u go make a vid.. if u use premiere then on video options u can use the image alpha on layer settings if im not mistaken...
now if u do decide the avi thing then u would definetly need some compositing software cause u would have tpo color or chroma key the bg... and by doing tiffs or targas or iff u have an alpha and ur compositing will be clean..
hope that helps a bit..
sincerely

i guess premiere doesn't recognize the numbering.
e.g. if you have filename.framenumber then it could be a problem for premiere. try different settings. maybe filename.framenumber.fileformat or something like that. or just use one of the renumbering utilities available.
