View Full Version : Export Actor geometry?
I would like to create some preview renders for a client using the Actor geometry with mocap applied. I would like to do this in cinema 4d so i can use more advanced rendering techniques like ambient occlusion and global illumination.
How can i export Actor geometry from Motionbuilder 2011? Is this possible?

Won`t saving to FBX do the trick?

Hi danb,
I have done such a task for actor geometry and wrote about that on my blog

Have you got any experience in OR SDK ?
Thank you very much Neill. Your plugin is exactly what i need!
Will this work in all motionbuilder versions? I will not be able to test for a couple days but would like to give the plugin to coworkers to use, if it works in latest motionbuilder.
I don't have any experience with the SDK enough to program plugins or scripts.
I could not get the actor plugin to work. How do I use it? I copied to the plugins directory but could not find the file in the Asset Browser.
Also we are using Optitrack Mocap, is your latest "tracking tools" any different from Optitracks' tracking toolset? Is your tracking tools a plugin you offer to the public for free, or pay?
I browsed your blog and there seems to be many plugins that would be helpful to us. Are most of these available already in Motinobuilder 2010, or do they have to be downloaded from you?

I have reimplemented my plugin into a separate tool - snapshot tool (http://neill3d.com/snapshot-tool-for-motionbuilder)
I have attached fbx file with already dublicated actor's models, if you would like to open it somewhere.

My tracking toolset is oriented to accurate tracking (not in realtime), to get good quality, to control tracking process with your own hands... We have used this toolset in our mocap studio. The problem with original "tracking tools" is that it's operating with data in realtime and there is no any possibility to control the process.
For free only avaliable device plugin to catch streaming TT rigid bodies. device plugin (http://neill3d.com/mobu-device-plugin-for-trackingtools-has-updated)

Feel free to write about some plugin if you didn't find a version to download.
Thank you very much for your help with the Actor geometry. i will look over the Snap Shot tool and test the fbx file.
We would like to implement a virtual camera by using tracking tools. Optitrack now has this as a separate bundle. We would rather have a way to track our actor in the mocap suite along with rigid body markers attached to a camera. Optitracks' solution is far too expensive.
I will search your blog to see if you have a plugin or script that may help with virtual cameras.

For virtual camera I have used TT trackable and my device plugin for MotionBuilder. That helps to look into the MoBu's scene using TT rigid body. I'm thinking of recording a demo video how It looks like... if you would like to use the device plugin, you're welcome. Just give me your e-mail.

A demo video would be great!

I have recorded video about my virtual camera system based on TT's rigidbody tracking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMmb4yNiraQ

Hi
I tried your actor in maya and mobuild 2011 - works fine. What I would like to do is:
-i have my mocap animation on an skelet in mobuilder
- i put the single joints on an actor so the actor moves with it
- i want to export the skelet and the actor as fbx
i have not figured out a way to do so. Is there another similar plugin which can
do this? I havend found out how to do this with yours.
thx all in all also for the exported actor mesh!
