Hi, I wonder if there is a way to do some basic compositing in Lightwave, exemple: You got a scene with a screen. The image inside the screen is some nice flowers but they follow the same camera motion as the camera in the the scene.

For do that now I need to render my scene in 1 pass, then render another scene with the flowers and a different background, then render an alpha of the screen, bring all this in After Effects and compose it there.

Is there no way to tell an object to become the matte of another group of objects?

I can do it the After Effects way but when the client make corrections, I need to correct all the passes... really annoying.

would image sequence with clip or transparency map on flat polys work?

haaaa no, I dont think so... you'd have to render it before... it would faster to do it in After Effects then.

I hope some day we will see layers in 3D softwares, not "group" layers but pre-render layers. You could put objects in it, dissolve them all together, use them as matte for other layers... even put different Anti-aliasing settings for blured foreground and backgrounds...

There's a CCTV shader, maybe that helps.

CCTV is probably your answer to this.

Think about videogames that have screens where animated characters turn up. Those are not pre-computed videos, since that would take up too much ram, so what they usually do is to place a set somewhere in space (obviously somehere far away from the place you are actually viewing through the camera in the game) and when you trigger the screen, the set is activated and the result can be seen.

CCTV works very similar to this, so what you need to do is to create an isolated set within the same scene and add some constraints to your "set" camera so that it does the same thing as your main camera, and then feed that result onto the screen on the main camera.

I hope you get what I'm onto here... if not, let me know and I'll try to do a videotute. If you can, it would help if you could either share your scene, or at least make a mockupscenefile that could help me and others help you.

My project is finish since a while, or at least it is in approbation mode. I went with the old school method of rendering everything in few different passes.

CCTV would have help in that particular case but its just another workaround to get the job done.

I think there is no such ways to do this in LW at present time except maybe with costly plugins like Passport or Janus.
