I am just starting out on modeling wondering what is the best way to model a character or creature . Should i Use poly or nurbs or surfaces or both? Any help would be great thanks

Polygons, if you plan on using mudbox or zbrush in the pipeline, you'll have to convert your nurbs or surfaces to polygons eventually.
