Quote:
"Hunched with his troops in a dusty, wind-swept courtyard, the squad leader signals the soldiers to line up against a wall. Clasping automatic weapons, they inch single-file toward a sandy road lined with swaying palm trees.

The squad leader orders a point man to peer around the corner, his quick glance revealing several foes lying in wait behind a smoldering car. A few hand signals, a quick flash of gunfire, and it's over.

The enemy is defeated, but no blood is spilled, no bullet casings spent: All the action is in an upcoming Xbox-based training simulator for the military, called Full Spectrum Warrior.

Increasingly, the Pentagon is joining forces with the video-game industry to train and recruit soldiers. The Army considers such simulators vital for recruits who've been weaned on shoot'em-up games"

This kind of stuff actualy freaks me out a bit, not because of the army using it, but mostly because of how some people get afected by those kind of games...
For example, I am an aviation entusiast, so I play games like fight simulator, Il2 etc.., recently i've found this cult game F 16, that is a bit old but evolved by user patches, they said it was a very realistic sim so I got a copy of the old game and downloaded all the patches, then i've checked some forums for install instruction and to check the comunity.... it's freaking scary! Some of those guys are completely fixated on the game and by consequence on warfare, they talk about wars like if the real world was just like the games they play, on those forums was an ongoing discution about the war on iraq goin on at the time, not only 99% of those guys were in favor of the war, but some of them were clearly part of right winged radical groups, i've seen avatars with thins like Militia of the people of... and logos from organisations that favor the free market of guns, etc etc etc... Some other nice touches in the posts were things like: "Lets hope we can see some air to air action in this war", or " have you seen that new bomd caled *****"
I'm sure the same or even worst hapen with games like Counter strike or the kind..
You get the ideia... they see wars as games, and games, well not the games but gaming comunities influence the way they see the rest of the world.
Are we creating a generation of persons who like to see a war on TV every winter?
Me, i'm back to my paceful virtual Cesnas

already they are training people using Americas Army the video game. its a recruitment tool and a training tool. Also it has was proved that video games do in fact increase your reflex skills. But I can just imagine a soldier shooting a guy and then screaming to his friend "LOL I RULEZ, I LEET"

hahahahahahahahahaha

to bad they dont have aimbot for real life wars:surprised which brings up another point this game isnt gonna be used for the purpose intended, because peoplle will cheat in the game to be better than others, it happens in ALL games. Does anybody have any screenshots im curious on what the video looks like: if this game looks crappy nobody is going to playit especially with COD coming out and the MOH series, now those are real war games.

Call me Hippie or wathever you want but I dont realy think that's anithing to be proud of....
Here, I had to go to the army for 6 months, its the law we have to go heither we want-it or not.
I've learned to use guns, i've seen grenades and Tnt charges blowing, and you now what? Its not funny at all, they are not toys, its very very very diferent from Counter strike and all those Chuck Noris movies, they are more like in Platoon, or Saving private Rian....

The problem is that many of the youger players, dont realise that there is no fun or heroics in going to war, and this shootemup mania, specialy those "military simulators" are not making things any better...

your right mazer i feel sorry for you, you had to give up 6 months of your life for nothing in return. Also think of it like this too if you or anybody else had to join the army you could always make games for them instead of joining infaltry.

I'm not entirely sure since I haven't been following it closely, but I believe this game is a tactical squad simulator (and 3rd person as well, I believe), not exactly an action FPS. The point is that you're commanding a squad of AI troops which you have to manage and use to plan/execute strategies. And yes, the graphics are nice. (http://www.gamespy.com/previews/june03/fullspectrumwarriorxbox/screenshots.shtml)

By the way Mazer, you're starting to break forum rules there. I know it's hard to keep political discussions out of a conversation about a game developed by the military, but you're making generalizations about U.S. gun owners and people who play violent games (I would fit into both catagories)

I'm certainly not going to get involved, I've made that mistake before. I'm just saying, it's never a good topic to get into.

full spectrum warrior looks amazing. its not just a fps, u command the entire squad with this innovative control system. A full video preview is on the new XBox DVD Magazine. Its good that the military is training with these games, and its good that the companies are releasing more games like these.
Keeps us wannabe military squad players happy :)

Bah, I like videogames, period. It's not like we have a problem of videogame-related violence here, or in Japan, where a lot of violent games and movies have been made.

So I drink to videogames! Cheers

If people dont beleive that its so fun and heroic they wont go to war. thats strategy of America "the land of the brave and the free" this always makes me laugh when I hear that. people that have never left US soil saying how the US is the greatest country in the world. US is just deceit and lies. but luckily the masses are easy to control. I mean if they didnt have those movies where war is so cool and sometimes funny than why would people come to the army. Also they can't have the masses knowing what is going on in Irak. I was lucky to be in France during the war in IRak so I got to follow it by seing the French,British, and American television. On the American television you mostly heard: We are gaining posissions our brave soldiers are giving all they have and the enemy in fear are giving themselves up. this is what people heard in France: the Americans advance with slight or no resistence. yet 14 people from the coalition have died today 12 when the americans accidentaly shot a british helicopter and 2 during a tank malfunction. and basicaly the same thing on the british television.

I mean this war made people think that it was so great, on all sides all people saw were a beautiful display of light show over bagdad that made you dream. also for those of you living in America Im just telling you that since the day the US "Won" their have been on average 78 dead dayly on the Americans side. im not going to tell you how many Iraki died because if you'r American you probably dont care and if you live in another country you probably already know.

ok on that note ill leave you to your work, I have to see Rambo, its coming on tonight and I dont want to miss it. just Joking

t-man152, that is too mutch politics and can ofend some people....
Agent D- I've made an eford not to make my replies politics, but you now is a narow line, between opinions and politics. I' didn't
wrote USA one single time in my posts, I didn't stated if I was in favor or against the war on iraq, I just made referance to a 99% of people in favor in those forums, this because its very diferent from the aprox 50% in other places, I was trying to make relation between this fact and the military simulators mania.
I never said that I was against guns, i've just said that they are not toys, that's not politics its comon sense. I've made reference to my personal experience for a simple reason, I did already had respect for guns before, but it got biger wen I had to deal with them, its a big chock to see a real fragmentation grenade or tnt blow, wen all I knew about wepons was from movies and games... This to make reference to the false ideias these "simulators" give, it just looks so easy and so diferent, I'll quote the quote from the first post:

The squad leader orders a point man to peer around the corner, his quick glance revealing several foes lying in wait behind a smoldering car. A few hand signals, a quick flash of gunfire, and it's over.

The enemy is defeated, but no blood is spilled, no bullet casings spent:

Finaly, i'm not agaisnt violent games, on the contrary, i love a good quake or Unreal once in a wile, but my life doesnt revolve aroud-it and they are not simularors, i think if you make a simulator it should be real as real as it gets, you should see lots of blood and guts, you should be able to kill civilians by mistake, and feel those orthe loss of a squad member as in real life... but then the servers would be empty....and they wouldn't be good recruiting tactics...
