The Animator's Workbook (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0823002292/qid=1065322979/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/103-9117163-6341449?v=glance&s=books)
Cartoon Animation (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1560100842/qid=1065323147/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/103-9117163-6341449)

Anything by Richard Williams or Preston Blair. Their books are invaluable for both 2D and 3D animators.

Inspired 3D Character animation

also a good book with some different ideas

you mightwant to search for 'Muybridge' on the net too, he took loads of photographs of people walking around so you can see all the poses and the timing
