I am trying to map a landscape mesh with some fairly high pinnacles which are not mapping correctlywith regular UVW Unwrap or UV mapping. The tops are getting horribly stretched, and I need it to be fairly detailed, and so the mapping has to be perfect. I am trying to map it using 2 map channels, one for the top and one for the sides. However, the thing that is confusing me is how it all works out in terms of the material editor. Once I have it mapped, how should I set up the material? What I want ideally is to have one bitmap projected from the top down, and the other one projected from the sides, with smooth blending between the two. I have a material set up with a mix material, with a gradient in the Mix Amount set up for map channel 2, but it doesnt seem to be showing up in the render. I'm thinking maybe a multi-subobject material next, or maybe a blend material, but the options are confusing and I'm not sure which would be best. Thanks for any help.

Post some (LITTLE) renderings of the problem... so we can better understand it.
