I'm using Maya fur to create grass in my scene. I also want to render environment fog, but it looks like the grass stays a solid color and ignores the fog. Is there a way to make fur work with environment fog?

Assuming fog doesn't work with effects like fur, is there a way to convert fur to polygons, or convert fur to hair (which can be converted to polygons)?
