Salutations,

here's a new concept image for you to model. Sadly I don't have the author's name (I found the image in one of my concept folders on a backup disk). So please excuse me for not providing a link to his/her other work. If I find out, I'll post it :)

Time limist is 5 hours. As before shading, texturing and lightning are not included in the time limit and are optional. So you can spend as much as time on them as you want.

Please post your WIPs, problems, comments about your or others workflow in this thread.

Have fun modelling!

5 Hours.
I used all 5 hours, 3 hours into the process I had to start to simplifiy everything to be able to do the big parts in the concept. Not sure about the process how to model concepts like these in the most efficient manner, especially when you don't have a solid side view and front view.
Had a blast though. :)

Had problems with the render today so I will add to the render with wireframes and such later. Couldn't smooth either because of the faulty render.

Btw just wanna add that I do know that his upper body is wider than the concept, sure was a difficult task to model him. :)
Gonna post something later this week, might have to download an older version to be able to render correctly...

bedtime right about now. :argh:

Thanks guys really appreciate it. :)

Still been having some weird render problems, Am currently asking about it in the blender section. Have these weird wires in some of the material, should be some kind of render setting but it keeps coming back, snif.
Gonna post the wires when I get, or should I say if I get a fix on the problem.

Tilted his head forward a little. :)

ok finally after a lot of tweaking and adding and moving, it was the normals that was set to inside on some of the parts. lol sometimes the answer is too easy.
This render was more what I had in mind when I wanted to show the model, it is real simplified though because of time limit. :)
This concept was a real good practise.

God-of-Zilla that looks great! This is a difficult challenge, but totally worth it if you ask me.

Msus I know it's a speed modelling challenge but sicne I dont have much time in a day I've been working on it in chunks...is that still ok? If so I'd like post what I have done when I get to the 5 hour mark.

I do the same thing. Heres my rose from past challenges. I didn't have time to post it when it was relative.

Thank you. :)
Yea it sure was difficult, I found myself out of time so there had to be a lot of simplifying. Some parts were difficult to understand how they work aswell, I doubt my interpretation works that well but I take it as a good practise.
I Hope to be better in future concept sessions. :)

Yeah, you can do it in chunks or any other way you want. Does not matter. It's not the time limit that's important, it's improving your workflow that is. I've been a bit busy, so I haven't been contributing a lot of my own work. I guess, I'll need to change my priorities, my 3D work has been suffering :(

I really love your finished work God-Of-Zilla. I've started a couple of times, but I just hit a problematic part, and I just give up :S Are you going to finish it, and rig it?

I ran outta time. This one was/is hard, I plan on finishing it tho. I think this is a wicked cool concept sketch.

Thank you MSus. :) Haven't thought of finishing it, it would take too long I think....
Just looking at where I am with my model I think I would need at least 5 more hours to clean things up. lol
I wanna adress though that I have learned a great deal here just by joinin these speed sessions, think it is a kind of thinking with modeling. Now I know that you can model the whole thing in real rough mode then keep rebuilding and adding detail where it needs.
Before one understands the concept of modeling one think it has to be perfect directly, I am sure some modelers think like that though.
Ahh anyway, I am rambling.

DaveMcMahon, Wow that's awesome, you really solved some parts real good. It is interesting when you look at others interpretation, I see things I could have done differently just by your looking at yours, awesome.

Great models everyone. I wanted to share this link. I found the reference image used in this challenge from the Ballistic Publishing website on this link (http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/books/dartiste/concept_art/) . I didn't find out the artist, but I also didn't look too hard. I am sure someone out there can find the artist from Ballistic.

The artist we are looking for is Kemp Remilliard . They say it's one of the piece that got him a job at Massive Black.

Really nice website, very inspiring!
