View Full Version : Creature: Back 2 Coobah - UPDATED!
Yoshua 10-03-2003, 07:47 PM Hey Everyone, it's been a while!
You may remember this guy from a while back, but it's been so long ago that I worked on him, so I made a new thread.
I want to continue on him again after I get some sleep, anyhow I want to add lots more detail so it is a good model, but my problem is I cant figure out how or what I can add for that detail. So I need your creative minds to tell me what I should do. I will do anything you say, but I must like it first.

Here it is after I updated it alot today!

Here's a Wireframe for ya!
http://members.coolcats.net.au/genesis/Temp/3DWork/Coobah01.jpg
Here's the concept art, me quickly made in Photoshop.
I see a few things I wana fix, like the horns, claws and tail. But I will leave for tommorow.
I actually had not worked on 3D for a while now, that is until today. I actually been getting real frustrated with Max, it had been running like cr@p. I just thought I needed more RAM in my computer. Anyhow I was stuffing around in Max today and decided to see how it would run under OpenGL instead of DirectX, and to my surprise MAX ran like a dream, much much faster, meaning I could happily work on 3D Again :)
Note: Me edited this post and made a link to the pictures now cause these are the old WIP. Now the page will load quicker for ya!
Thanks, C+C = :)

nice, is it going to be a toy or a real creature?

Good question FeRdI.
I guess I'm aiming for Semi-Realistic. I don't see the design of this creature to be realistic at all, but I'm no expert. Anatomy wise, he probably is entirely screwed and not even able to walk, but I could be wrong again. So ultimately I would say I am focusing on Semi-Realistic. :)
I'm going to work on this baby again today, hopefully some people eventually respond and tell me what I can add to give him more detail, so he looks real good.
Does anyone think it looks any good at the moment? Should I just forget it and start a new project? Personally I think it looks all right and will continue. :)
Thanks, C+C = :)

Hello again!
I've been working on it today and have added some more detail and cleaned the mesh up a bit. I still think there is a fair bit more I can do to make it good, if ya have any suggestions let me know.
Not much response from people, hopefully you all have some advice and comments soon.

Hey once again!
I made a few more updates today, cleaned up the mesh mostly, fixed the behind and plus some other stuff. I think it's almost done. I just gona redo the cheast, maybe give some more detail around front of the head and finally redo the horns, claws and tail. I also need to clean the mesh up a tad more still.
No one don't seem to be interested in my model. :( Any feedback would be nice. :)

Hey again.
Before I go to sleep, around 4:20am! I have a question
I was wondering judging from my Wireframe if you could tell me how hard this guy would be to set up and animate? and if ya have any advice on doing so? I'm gona try and quickly put a rig together tomorrow and see what happens, hope for the best. I should also learn how to use Morpth Targets some time soon too.
Sorry if these are stupid questions, I've just heard people say that some models are hard to animate and you need lots of edge loops and low poly counts.
I think I can handle texturing it alright, me just worried about animating. :\
I actually have not done too much character animation and don't know a whole lot about it. I've only really ever rigged and done 1 basic animation on a quite simple character before. Anyhow I would like to both texture and animate this model. Me thinks animating him will be fun.
Thanks anyways.

Hey once again!
Me decided to end work on this dude, he not going anywhere by the sounds of things. I now see why ppl don't like this thing, I think it's cr@p too compared to other work I see. So me might start a new project now, but really can't be bothered.
Any Mods out there, feel free to delete this thread.
Cya next post.

Wow thanks RedFish, you make me want to work on my model again.
The hands claw thingys are gone, maybe I should give him fingers like Tyrannosaurus Rex or something. I will see what I come up with.

Hey
I made a start on the hands. Tell me if you think this is suited? Is it too big? Do I need the thumb? Do I need to define the hand from the arm better?
Well I will give more detail to the thumb and hand if you say I should keep it like this.

Hey me just got an idea, should I make a big blade claw thingy going from the the arm over the hand too?
Thanks

That looks champion, kinda reminds me of creatures from a game called super metroid ... anyway, i like the hands, but some taper toward where the wrists would be would be good
anyway keep up the good work :D

Thanks for the comments :)
Sorry for my late reply, did not check into CGTalk for a little while. I'm surprised by your responses. Well now that I know ya like the hands better I will now bring them up to scratch and finish them.
@Luminate: Wow, Im actually a huge metroid fan and love Super Metroid, I actually wanted to create a metroid type creature. Glad you noticed. :)
@Jeroen: Yep it's made from subdivision, he was born from a box. :)
Thanks.

Hmm, stoped working on this guy a while ago... Sorry I never answered your question :\
Well with this guy I basically just started from a box, using an Editable Mesh and then used the Mesh Smooth modifier... I really should start using Editable Polys.
Sooo this is Sub-D modelling right? Unless I am mistaken on what Sub-D actually is?
Thanks
