View Full Version : SMC 51 (9.30.2010 to 10.14.2010)

- The speed modelling challenges are open to everybody.
- In every challenge you will get a list of items. Pick one and try to model it as fast as possible. If you want, you can do all of them.
- Do not exceed the time limit of the challenge. If you're out of time and still haven't finished, post the unfinished model.
- If you finish before the time limit, spend the remaining time on refining and adding details to your model.
- Focus on modelling. Shading, lightning and "proper" rendering are optional (and thus not limited by time).
- Take as much time for reference hunting as you need.
- When posting your model make sure you post a wireframe of your model. (try to do more then one view of the model).
- You can do any challenge you want. The challenges are not closed when the SMC passes. If you fancy an older challenge, do that.
- For the concept items you have to create your own designs. If possible post the design images as well.

Items (2h time limit)

- washing machine,
- radio antenna,
- outhouse,
- pig,
- an open pack of cigarettes with cigarettes,
- jacuzzi,
- colosseum,
- human hand,
- nuclear power plant,
- human skull.


Theme "viking" (3h time limit)

- helmet,
- boat,
- axe,
- tent.

Hand, 1 hour.
Made a low poly mesh and sculpted on it in multires.., had to convert the low poly when I started to sculpt though so no wireframe this time.
Around 100 000 vertices for this one.

The anatomy is pretty shaky, good practise though. :wip:

Btw I have converted my site to a resource site, feel free to take some textures if you want. Have been thinking about adding some models on the site aswell, still trying to make a collection of models. Perhaps I should have more advanced models on the site, we'll see.

Hey there here's my entry for the washing machine took me 2 hours,but it was close to being over that ulimatum... (not only cause of my 5 year old laptop on which i did this...but anyways) It's probably the worst thing you've seen, but hey i'm improving...sometimes ^^ hope so -,-

It's just rendered with the c4d intern renderer..no vray,renderman,brasil...
Did it just with the standard things as you can see,like cubes,cylinders etc.
next thing will be the viking axe...i think.

Yeah, it's a bit slow. I've been working on a few other personal projects, so I don't have the time to actually model anything for SMCs.

I like your use of floating geometry Herne :)

Been messing around with compositing and different texture settings lately, guess it is all in the repeating.

Holy Batman roxburry, how did you model that planks? Did you do them individually or do you have a script of some sort?

Roxburry and I work together and I can assure you that he hand made those planks. Some of his geometry is "invalid" but it was speed modeling not production modeling. Additionally some of those planks are probably duplicates of each other with some variation of knot size and placement and even plank lenght and bends. He is on a business trip this week so he may not see/respond for himself but I will let him know you asked and maybe he can elaborate more.

For simplicity I modeled roughly 6 different "planks" and then rotated, flipped, and push/pulled verts around to give it more or a randomized pattern. Nothing complex, but a little more time consuming to achieve the effect I was going for!
