View Full Version : COFFEE <-> Python Scripts Conflict

As both Coffee and Py scripts are stored at
the same location (prefs) the following happen.

Coffee scripts can not be organized in folders.
(Would be -really- good if they could or be stored
in the ContentBrowser somehow).
If they are in a folder they don't show up in ScriptManager List.

But…
As I have hundreds of Coffee scripts some are put in folders
on purpose (Test set ups, things to remember and such).
Now these folders are recognized by Python and thus
they show up by name in the Python script list.
(But doesn't run of coarse as it is only folders ).

I will be extremely shocked if Maxon does anything(including fixing any conflicts with Python) ever again in the future.
Once the Mograph Coffee effector is ported to Python. Coffee will be completely wiped off the radar screen at Maxon.

As Dr. McCoy says: "He's dead Jim"

I sincerely don't get this Coffee bashing…

It's fast, it's easy, it's rock solid and it's cleaned
up big time in R12, i.e. constants are 100% in sync
with the C++ API as per the R12 Transition paper.

I'd probably do 90% of my scripting for times to come
and slide into Python as needed.

The -ON- topic issue is looked at by Sebastian.

I of all people would never bash Coffee. I love that language.

Me neither. I just wish it could get an update to bring it closer to C++.
Being able to create custom objects with COFFEE would be great (quite easy with Python, though).
Being able to access the timeline in all its glory would also be great.
