Hi all,

I've been working on this model (my first human!) for a while now, aiming to use it in a short that I'll be making over the next few weeks. I've been getting some great crits from my pals at elysiun.com and I think I'm almost done with it, however I thought before calling it 'finished', I'd open it up to a wider audience to see if anyone else has any ideas.

For some background, the character will end up being quite distressed, depressed. I'm aiming to have his muscles look kinda tense, to reflect this and give an uneasy impression. The tone of the piece will be quite bleak, abstract, surreal. I'm not aiming for photorealism - the final output will be completely black+white, high contrast lighting, lots of noise/grain in post. However I am aiming for a relatively realistic figure, with details that the lighting can pick out and highlight. He will be naked in the final product, though I'm omitting his privates so people don't get 'distracted' or find it farcical.

I really only want to spend a couple more days on this before I start rigging, so I guess I'm just looking for 'fit & finish' type suggestions, rather than complete overhauls :)

Oh shit!
Haha.. posting those images just made me realise I've completely forgotten the ears! Too many late nights.

Please ignore that aspect for now, I'll get on top of it tomorrow :)

I think that the upper back needs more detail. i can't really see his trapezius. The arms are more cartoony the the torso. legs seem to need to be a bit longer. edge loops in the hand need to be rethought, they won't move as good as they can. I can't really tell the age of the person, he seems to have diferent ages all over him.

I agree, i think the upper back needs a little more detail, he needs to have bumps there for his shoulder blades

Thanks very much! I agree about the back, it looks a bit rubbery. In earlier versions it was bit more detailed (you can still probably see the geometry for it there), so I'll revert back to that a bit. Don't know why I smoothed it so much.

I'll try and tweak the head a bit because I think it looks a bit older than the rest of the body. Yes, arms (and feet) need a bit more work, and I also realised I need to add some teeth/gums/tongue too! Oh dear, so much to do.. Funny how it's hard to notice these things after you've been looking at something for so long :) I'll have another update later tonight. Cheers.

pretty good work, i think you'll be making top models after you do a few more of these.

at the mo you should look into the feet, they look pinched in at the sides. and for your next model make sure you keep studying muscles so that you can improve on this one. (rather than modelling by memory)

Thanks! I didn't have time today to add ears/teeth, but I spent some time tweaking working on some of the issues you guys identified (back, face, arms, feet). I think it's looking a little more polished now?
