View Full Version : blending low and high res aerial photography in max

I'm working on a site model and typically what I do when working with good aerial photos is use a high res version for the area closest to my model on low res for the far areas of the horizon but I was wondering....

Is it possible to transition between low and high resolution images in 3d studio within one material? Like a blend material that would blend between the high res image close to the camera and at a given distance become the low res map? I don't know if there would even be a benefit to doing this especially if max has to fully load both bitmaps at render time

You could mix using a falloff distance. Depending on how you set up the mix curve 3ds Max will either load one or the other or both.
