Afternoon guys,

We watched in awe during the last challenge as all the entries came together, and decided it would be insane not to have a go at this challenge!

We are really looking forward to the new CG society Full Challenge - so what a great way to flex our creative and production muscles than on one of these challenges!

We can only recently (fully) switched to the 2011 max pipeline (late i know!!) so we are now playing around with the slate, as well as other little updates, so what a great way to put these new features into a production environment.

So - we have a team of two, wish us luck!

DAMBUSTERS - Script and animatic for the short.
Based on the timescales and budget for this, we are sort of making it up as we go, including as much FX and action in as we can!

Here is a rough - basic script/stroryboard and an animatic for the piece, we are still working on an ending!

ANIMATIC - vimeo (http://vimeo.com/15123965)

"Open on a POV of a gunner in his turrent onboard a Lancaster bomber. He is confused (looking around at the sky).

He turns as another officer shouts at him, to remain calm, keep vigalant and remain ready for battle while he deals with the bombing run.

we look towards the bombs lined up and ready for their target.

We see/hear a loud alarm, the pilot turns round and shouts "incoming" we see fighter planes shooting towards the lancaster bomber.

we cut to the POV again and start shooting (maybe cuts to close ups of the bullets, gun, or fighter planes).

one plane is hit!

we follow the plane down.

the rest bug out.

We cut back to the plane where the targeter (bomber) is getting ready for the bomb run, he looks at his instruments and we cut to a infographics style of animation leading to the launch point. he indicates the launch!

We follow the bombs, out of the plane and falling through the air, they spin as they fall, showing the painted graphics on the side of the bombs.

The bomb hits the water.

we cut to the plane and the bomber looking over the target."

etc.... we need an ending, we are playing with two at the mo, these will unfortunately be decided by timescales, however should both be a good way to finish the short, so we shall see!

Good to see a nice logicaland well considered workflow, great start! I hope you can pull it off in the time scale. Look forward to seeing more progress shots soon.

Nick

p.s I think its much better that you modelled your own assets, its more work but it will be an even bigger accomplishment if you have started totally from scratch.

Starting to build the internal lighting rigs and the external (sky) environments, been looking at just pulling the light from the red flashing (warning) lights as well as the map reading lamps, and environmental (sun or moon - not decided yet).

early tests look pretty good, moody and gritty :D

check out the image at full size - looks better!! ;)

We have started animating and rendering as we go (post pro too!), not the best pipeline in the world, but due to the work commitments, we are having to really push this through when we get the chance.

scene01 - boy in bed reading (complete)
scene02 - closeup of the book
scecne03_01 and scene03_02 - animated and ready.

heres a few shots:

hahhaha

no chance mate!

we had a project come through that knocked our timescales back - we are rendering 24/7 at the mo, but i doubt we will get it done in time. we are still gonna run it through though, as we are really enjoying it, so we have added a little more story to it and will probably create it as a short.

we will continue to post the WIP here though.

shame!

That's a real pity mate! Still looking forward to the finished result!

Really loved the chars though, although I might be insulting you immensely now, I love the toylook, especially on the textures on the face, damn fine work.

not at all mate, that is kind of the style we are going for, especially with the eyes of the pilots, we are trying to convey emotions without using the eyes at all. (thought we would give it a go!).
