View Full Version : Environment : <<seoul Station>>
Ryan3D 10-02-2003, 03:58 AM  Hi, I'm Ryan from Korea.
Let' me introduce my first environment work which is very famous station in Korea. It's called "Seoul station".
When I was young, I wanna make it because the lighting is very pretty at night.
This is the reason why I like this scenery. ^_^ thank you~!!
It's made by Maya 4.0 ( software rendering ) & Photoshop
It's used 120 lighiting ( Direction & point lihgt )
It has a render time ( 50 mins )

Nice work overall :)
Just a few problem areas:
- The textures (which are nicely painted) are all a little oversaturated for my tastes. Colours tend to be far more subdued at night.
- Some of the repeated textures (such as the doors) are a little too obvious. Perhaps try making subtle changes to it to break up the repetition (or overlay procedurals onto them).
- The lighting is a bit muddled, possibly because you used sooo many of them! In the scene there are only a few physical lighting fixtures illuminating the outside of the building, so the lighting should be more localised. Right now the facade is being lit too much. The shadows should also be slightly deeper for night time :)
- The "Seoul Station" and Asian script, is it supposed to be flourescent lettering? because if that is the case, then you need to add some flourenscence or luminosity of something to that, because right now it looks a little strange.
Hope this helps! :D

thank you Leigh
Wow I know your works. Your works are very famous in Korea.
Because we know your work "The Lord of ring". Some page translate your WIP. I also read this. wow I'm surprise because your criticism is very sharp.
- Yeh I kwow that is little bit too saturate. I'm worry about that.
But I wanna try like a photograph which is same thing.
nevertheless, I agree with your opinion.
- yes, The post lighting is too bright. Sometimes I also confused that if the post light is dark, It'll be seemed like Asian script.
- Asian script is that can't control option because If I modify the option, all of the light are changed too bright. But I want like a neon. It's my fault.
Thank you your opinion which help my ability. thank ^_^
If I make another work, I'll never forget your ment ..

Thank I like the station, Now It's construct by goverment because people want new station. Maybe next year we will see new one.
I also expact new station, but I like old one which is batter, Just my thinking~ Thank you for your ment ^_^
i agree w/leigh's comments...
it also appears you are using a strange lens for this shot - the whole station appears to be 'leaning' to the right.
overall - it is too bright - you can't see the numbers on the clock, so that should give you some indication it is too saturated.
your modeling and texturing appear to be very good. i'd just experiment with the lighting a little bit, and you'll have yourself a nice composition...
side note: as suspected, it appears leigh is, indeed, a hottie.

I think that the model of the building is execellant. The only thing I don't like about it is the korean at the top of the screen. It's kind of... well, it certainly takes away from the awesome building. I'd take it out. Great building though. Leigh has a point though. May want to scramble the textures a bit more.. Great job.

I prepare this which is original photograph, I also agree your opinion, It's too saturate, but can you wait that I grow up.
2 years ago, I made this structure by maya. So I know my problem, It's up to me. I can fix my some problem. Thanks~!!
How about this which is real photo ?

Just one more thing to make it more realistic: the bumps are quite too deep in general!
 Good job!
Do you plan to place some trees? (final touch)

Very well. But you should consider changing some things. A little less bump, a litle less light, more ambient light and some softer shadows. ;) And put some more GI it looks like the building is not reflrcting the light. If you fix those little issues the picture will be more real.
Look at the photo you posted at the bottom of the building the shadows are soft because all the light is generated by boucing of the walls.
:hmm:
Exept those little things the image is good.

hahaha I also think about the tree, but I can't do how to make this. So I give up to make tree. If I make this, It'll be better than now.
thanks your opinion.~!!
hi. i like your detailed work a lot!
maybe you wanna try this with the neon-sign: use many little lights that are spread on the splines (or whatever it is) of the characters of the sign without specular generating. use a strong falloff so that the lights wonīt lighten the rest of the scene. i think itīd make sense to exclude the neon lights from radiosity processing.
some of the light spots are way too bright but i guess you need to dim all of them down which might be a lot of work.
itīs just an idea.:wavey:

Ryan3D, your scene is great !!
And I agree with above comments.
I would say , dont take the photograph literally...because its a night time photo perhaps taken on sensitive film with high exposure, which produces bright washed out lights etc....
Why not make it better than a photo....

Wow I haven't known the photograph literally & sensitive film
But I know the reason why this pic is high exposure, Thank you for your opinion, I agree with your opinion.
