View Full Version : Zbrush to Mudbox
GoodAsNew 09-17-2010, 10:38 AM Hey,
I have a problem transfering a model from Zbrush to Mudbox with all the division lvls.
Here's what i've tried so far:
1. exported each lvl separately from zbrush as an obj.
2. imported first lvl to mudbox
3. divided it once
4. imported second lvl as a layer.
The mesh literally exploded. Looks like if each division lvl has different vertex order and it tries to pull wrong verts to wrong places.
Maybe i'm doing it totally wrong?

that wont work this way... cause mud and z are working with a different vertex counting...
best would be to wait two weeks and use usubdivide in the new mud advantage pack...
or if you need it now... use uvs for the import....
or bake a dispmap between the high and the low in mud und use the sculpt model with dispmap feature...

I think i need to look into the dispmap method. hope it makes accurate result. I've always had trouble getting anything good out of displacement maps.
I already tried the UV importing with horrible result. (edit) Maybe i have something wrong in the uvs.
That unsubdivide sounds kickass. Would that work so that i import the highest division and then it just calculates the lower divs automatically, after clicking some buttons ofc? :)

Hi Oglu
I am in the middle of the process to export my model to Mud, included all the high frequency details
so you mention that the export of a displacement map from Z is an option
also you mention that "use uvs for the import...." how is this method?
any tips or videos on the process?
thanks
file --> import layer works with uvs or vetexorder...
and if you like to use a dispmap use maps --> sculpt model using dispmap

Ok
Whit the method of import layers which layer level should I consider to import every one
Or just the highest
Is one method better than the other?
Thanks
the highest level should be fine... but if its to dense use one level beneath...
and both methods are sub optimal... ;)
