It's a very well done illustration, but i can't get around the large breasted woman holding the very large and falic sword :p

i think the smoke between the girl and the other guys don't seems as detailed as the whole picture(je sais pas si je suis tres clair , en fait je trouve que ca la fumée fait moin realiste et plus cartoon que le reste)
otherwise i really like this illustration , good work

Shaykai

I think he was going for the less detailed smoke and stuff. I personally like it a lot, lots of cross between anime and CG. Really good.

It doesn't quite fit altogether visually, but the composition looks great. I especially like the Zelda-esque cloud work. The sword design and form is excellent. The woman is slightly TOO busty though. In my opinion.:)

Well done Xav!
Do you understand English critics?! I used to know that your english is very bad?!...
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!...
Bon, là n'est pas la question!...
Félicitation, Xav', c'est encore une belle réalisation... (it's quite a good work...), comme d'habitude (as usual...).
J'adore ton choix pour la fummée (I love the way you choose for creating the smoke...), ça donne un parti pris, très "Estampe"... (real "Estamp" style...)!
I hope you'll continue to produce good work, when you'll be away from QD...
Remember us...

Bye...

Whoa, awesome! :applause: Best image I've seen all week :D

How much of the image is 2D and how much is 3D? It's so well integrated that I thought it was a 2D piece until I noticed that it was in the 3d section of ur site! Can we see more renders of the characters? ;)

WOW :)

Thx all.

I'm posting a few screenshots so that you can estimate the proportion between 2D and 3D. My purpose is still the same, I'm not pro 2D either 3D but I just want to to the image in itself.

The first modeling and composition is in speed paint.

All maps are worked in speed paint style to make a better fusion between photoshop and maya.

The idea of using speedpainting2d like as textures is great....

I have no critics, i just love it...

The only thing that looks strange to me is where her hair comes out of her headband thing. Looks like the hair is chunky....

Other than that, despite the fact that she has monolithic boobs, this is very nice looking. And yes, the first thing I thought of too was Zelda's clouds....which isnt necessarily a bad thing.

nothing I could ever crit ^^, only one thing though, if you extend the image on the left and render in an higher resolution, this would make a perfect wallpaper.

This is FREAKING amazing! :surprised Great work! Love the composition. What a great idea to intertwine the old japanese art with outstanding 3d.

Once again . . . bravo.

BTW, I second infi's recommendation, to post a render which could be used as wallpaper.

Oh, yeah, nice website. Very nice concepts. Will we ever see the continueing saga of Forest of Life? Hope soon.

Keep up the good work.

okay. I thought this was an old thread bumped up!

click = WHOA!

THat first image of the scene, with the chick and that stunning cloud/swirl look.. what can I say, this forum has lots of stunning photoreal stuff and yet time and time again, its the pieces of work with that artistic touch (this and efferendi by Guowei) that really hammer home the beauty of CG. Its not about creating/replicating reality, its about doing something beautiful

5 stars from me.

really wikkid piece, i lvoe the colors used on the main character, and how you used less eye catching colors on her attackers, the housing seems a little repeticious, but it doesnt bother me, i like the fact you went into that much detail to show it.
the only thing the boggles me is the arrows, maybe they have meaning but im not sure what they are.

or is there any?

Either way, great piece, Good work :-)

Very beautiful illustration - my only very humble critique is that, at first glance, she appeared to be tied up to a post and not holding a sword. Only after reading other posts did I realize that it was a sword.

I thought I was good at judging style and interperation but this piece fooled the hell out of me. I swear I thought that the girl was a 2D image and the background was the only 3D element. But to my pleasant suprise the entire piece was done in 3D...Bravo sir you have mad skillz!

10-03-2003, 04:43 PM
rudipooimf , a question... by curiosity.
And in fact i ask it to everybody here:

Do you always have to know "HOW" it was made and "WHERE" to find a "METHOD" to do it?

Have you ever heard about something called "EXPERIMENTATION" ? They should told you that at school.

anyway, really good work but i've already said it.

raaahhhhhhhhhh rahhhhhhhhhh

c'est genial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! magnifissismique!
I love your piece of art!!!!!!!!!!!
want more want more! composition and colours are just incredible!
just perfect!
one thing, at first, i didn't notice the arrow she has in the leg at all.... maybe that it could be brighter(je sais pas si c le bon mot...) so people could understand immediatly that she's hurt... or maybe it's just me who is soooo tired that i just didn't see the arrow... :D
EXCELLENT WORK!

rudipooimf
10-03-2003, 05:31 PM
e338 i've already done my share of experimentation and theres nothing wrong with learning something in a different way based on someone elses experience if i'm not mistaken. Never know what you can pull out of another persons methodology or technique that might be beneficial. Next time i'll be sure to just say good job and not ask questions...thanks for your input.

cuse
10-03-2003, 05:41 PM
Hey i dunno but this sounds all a bit hostile, its a friendly community and im sure pretty much all of us here can learn something from the next person.

I do agree its a pain for people that are always asking for the quick answer and not experimenting, but chill, this is a cool piece and using a technique thats new to a lot of people im sure.

cuse

e338
10-03-2003, 05:58 PM
C'mon Cuse, don't play the fool with me.
You know whatta mean, don't you.
No hostility, i'm just kinda pissed of to read the exact same comments each time someone realizes a good pict.
just like if there was a (mel)Script to do it.
What about the man behind the machine? Who did the picture?
Is it maya, softimage or whatever?
Even a banana with make up can get the groove, if you know how to deal with it. Ask Aardman Studios...

For the "friendly community", i must have missed something. It can be friendly and in the meantime a place for... evolution?
Like growing up or something like that, and it's not by polishing shoes that you get bigger. Or at least, you become the best shoe-polisher, which can be a good thing.

Cheers

Great piece, but to me looks somehow unfinished.
The 2D doesn't integrate very good in the composition, and there is too much white (haze?) that makes it look like a poster with two different images (BG + main character).
The pose of the main character is a little weird too. She has a too relaxed look and too cute leg position for the arrow piercing her leg.
The best part IMO are the two "guys" on the background. Great dynamic poses . NIce outfits and shadows! :)

Good work, and thank you for showing us the process!!

(And I agree with e338, seems that some people wants to know the secret keys to produce the instant good artwork. I don't understand also why people want to know the used app, you can do whatever still image you want with any application, IMO...)

I agree with what your saying e in that alot of people want the quick solution to creating great artwork. I wasn't lookin for that however, just an idea of where he did his research for it. I'm not askin him for his secret. Just what he already publicly found that maybe we can all benefit from, either way no skin off my arse...thanks.

i'm not here to play the bad guy dude.
I just thinks that ... well... pfff
That wasn't dedicated to you specially, even if, to be honest, your post inspired me such a reaction. la goutte d'eau, comme on dit.
Anyway, i would add that experimentations are the basis of this job. You can watch how people do their stuff, it's a way to see a method, but it won't give you the same freedom facing a problem for the first time. your know, the kinda reptilian brain solution.
The day you stop experimentations,... you're dead as an artist to me. Anyway, there is a plenty of other things to do in life.
Best whishes

Wow! Yeah I have to agree with everyone, this is an awesome piece. I defiantly like it a lot, although the overly busty girl is a bit cliché. I like the 3D 2D combination, you made it blend together nicely. Defiantly like the arrow through the leg.

But there are a few things I will point out. (I don’t like just saying it’s cool don’t wanna be another “fanboy”…I feel the need to point out little things out, Although I kinda feel like I am nitpicking great work, I figure a little constructive criticism helps… nothing is 100% perfect, art is a subjective thing.)

1. maybe its just me but…It kinda seems like she is floating in the clouds, as appose to being high up on a hazy mountain top. I know it’s hazy and cloudy up there but maybe adding some small tufts of grass, rocks, or snow by here feet might help plant in to the ground better.

2. I might just be lame, but it couldn’t tell that there was a bunch of buildings down below…I thought they were trees at first, that’s not really a problem though, just me not being able to see.

Btw… did you hide the X symbol in the river on purpose, because you use that as you logo…if so nice touch.

Great work.

I think its a refreshing touch. A very original look. Sure we have seen the subject matter, but from your site -which I really like- that is one of your favorite topics in 3d. Also I enjoy reading what programs were used. I don't usually ask but sometimes scroll through to get the answer. Just curios I guess. I know it doesn't matter what program you use and there is no - now I have this program I will be great. I just like to see what is coming out of where. Keep up the good work!

Nice image. I like the tits & the theme. I think the clouds' appearance don't match the rest of the image because they look more cartoony. The background has enough detail & should be emphasized more. Great job overall :)

Well browsing through the my pictures folder the other day i found this image hiden away in some random folder. It is now my background. I dont think i commented on it before xavier but i have to now. It is a wonderful image that has such a dynamic feeling, and i really must say kudos to you.

Anyway I had to bump this so all the new members get a chance to enjoy it just as much as i have :)
