Check the Select Menu under the right toolbar (click on the 'select' title) and make sure that all of the 3 last options are unchecked:
Select Single.. , SI|3D selection , Extended Component Selection.
You can get more info on the various selection settings in the 'Fundamentals' section of the manuals..

I have Another Question:
lets say I have 20 points selected in a line but all points are on diff X location.. I want to be able to make all the selected points snap to a certain X location.. this way I don't have to input each X value manually.
Thanks again to anyone who can help!

1. Select your points
2. Enter 0 in the desired axes of the scale value (in the transform toolbar) If COG is on, the points will all snap to the COG of selected points, in the desired axes, else they will snap to the origin.
3. Move the aligned points wherever you wan't, or enter the desired x value in the transform toolbar.
