View Full Version : Texture questions (highlights)

Hello all. I'm fairly new at texturing and have a question. The question is for a game texture.
1) When texturing ships, do you place highlights on the edges or would you let the ambient game light do that.
I have a few samples of what I've been working on. My main problem is that I feel that I must put on highlights, but it doesn’t always look good. Any tips or constructive criticism will help.

the last one I put little or no highlights and shadows on.

For highlights, yes. i'll just let the shader do it. Unless the area that i realy want to show there has an highlight (and most of the time not because of the nightlights, but cratches) then i'll paint them on.

I'll keep them thin because is at the edge. And I won't paint them on every edges. Just with the one or two that i want to really showing. And don't remember. Always add a grunch map to break up the fine edges.
