View Full Version : Modelling : Stuffed Up Poly Cylinder
SuperMax 10-01-2003, 04:23 AM Why is it when you convert a cylinder to poly one of the bases gets stuffed up?
Usually the bottom base.
heres the settings for simple cylinder I just created.
Radius: 51.311
Height: 118.081
Height Segments: 5
Cap Segments: 3
Sides: 24
now convert this to poly and the base gets stuffed up.
Does it happen to you?
Why does it get stuffed up?
How do you stop from happening?
thanks :)

The reason this happens is because editable poly only works with quads (4 sided polygons) and the bas of a cylinder as a ring of triangles so thats why it stuffs up. You can just delete the base and then remake it yourself. That should sort the problem i think.
Also if you leave the cap segments at 1 it doesnt happen.
Convert your cylinder to editable mesh, then convert the mesh to editable poly. It should work fine.
According to me it's a bug.

From the Max 5 readme...
For Cylinder or Cone primitives with three or more cap segments, some types of polymesh conversions can cause duplicate faces; these include Boolean, Poly Select, Convert, and Collapse. To avoid this problem, add a Turn To Poly modifier to the object first.
