Just wondering which of these makes of psu you guys can recommend....
I would go for the globalwin as it claims to be super quiet .. but are they as reliable and good as the antecs or enermax's ?

I am looking to get something around the 400watt power rating...
the most quiet, and reliable psu would do the trick...so which one would that be ?

I did try to search for info... but I haven't found anything definitive... so any advice appreciated!

Cheers!

Antec Truepower's.

Their available in the states at retail locations, and have a 3 yr warranty.

I second Antec psu's and Enermax, i use both in my computers, some have variable fan speed settings. Don't penny pinch either when buying a psu, it's an important piece of kit.

wow... thanks for the rapido replies ! ....

thanks for the suggestions....

but have any of any experience of the globalwin psu's?.... they seem to be more expensive, and more quiet....
check out the specs....

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Globalwin_psu.html

then again, I've not found any specs or (independant) reviews to compare the various manufacturers....

www.anandtech.com

They've done psu roundup's in the past.

The reason antec is generally recommended is....

1) Their widely available.
2) They actually have warranty's (Many psu's do not)
3) The truepower's are basically silent
4) The truepower's have extremely clean voltages. (Not much variance).

yep.... thanks greg...

I've done the anandtech search though.... very little on the globalwin..... (unless I missed a trick )

antec it is then!....

thanks again for the advice... much appreciated... !

I wouldn't say forever...companies tend to flux in and out of the limelight.

Remember when everyone was crazy for 3dfx cards?

How bout the superior quality and integration of A3D Aureal cards with the vortex2 chips?

It looks like antec is winning the vote....

yah, i vote for Antec Truepower. I'm using a 380, real nice and real super quiet... quietest PSU I've ever worked with.

I've got a Globalwin PSU in my old dualie machine - it works a treat! Recommended to me by an old work colleague. Got the blighter from Overclockers.co.uk... I've got quite alot of faith in them as far as quality products go! :)

Edit: Whilst my globalwin PSU has been running solidly for 3 years right now I'd probably recommend you go Antec.

here's another happy truepower camper, clean voltages especially for athlons because of the seperate rails and very quiet. the temp controlled fan headers are great too. you should be fine with almost any major brand psu however.

I recently had to replace a faulty generic PSU and purchased the Antec TruePower 430w. This is a sweet PSU, almost no sound at all, and two fans keeping my case even cooler than before. Also the voltage hasnt fluctuated at all, and the fan rpm can be monitored in windows. The main cable is bound together tightly with a mesh and allows for easy ventilation.

Btw I just recently purchased a new truepower (I always keep one 330 and 430 as spares for the dept)...

And noticed they changed their styling slightly.

If you haven't seen them, they look even cooler then before :).

(They basically changed the color of the 4 prong power plugs to black with gold connectors)
