some guys at work animated a character using motionbuilder. when it went from max to fbx it had material id's.
when they export back the animation to max, and i re-import it, my material id's are all gone.

anyway to fix this?

thanks

Hi Fábio,

Have you tried only importing the animation back on to the character in to the original Max file?

Open the file Max file containing the character you originally exported to MotionBuilder
Import the FBX file and change the "Set File Content:" option to "Update scene elements/Exclusive merge"
This will only import the animation from the FBX file on to your character which means the material id's should be maintained. (I'm not sure if the names are exactly the same in the Max version of the importer as I haven't used it in a long time, but hopefully you'll be able to find something similar.)

Hope this helps
