this is my first challenge entry, although I have been following all the great work that shows up here. Hope my stuff is up to the challenge(I also hope to have the time to finish what I've started!!!:)

Well, here is my layout for what I roughly plan on doing...more to follow in the next few days. Not much to look at right now, but it will be influenced by the Angkor ruins...using photos as reference from my trip there.

Ciao!:)

If the tree is growing through the temple building on purpose I'd make sure you actually make a hole in the building around the tree....like it's broken through.

Other than that it looks like a solid start.

That's starting to look cool  The face sculpture looks good so far.
I agree with ZrO-1 about the tree and the building...
Although, it looks as though you are still just basically roughing them out.

I really do love the ability to see peoples ideas/methods in progress - this is a perfect case in point, the image is developing really nicely, it's great to watch!

Brilliant.

Yeah this is fantastic. I really need to develop a work routine like this. The progression of the work is logical and allows for all the various artistic considerations.

Great stuff so far mikey11. THis forrest is really shaping up to be one of the best. The way the trees are attached to the ground is pro'lly the best out of all the forrest pics. Yours are actually set into the ground and don't roll under where they touch the ground.

Two thumbs up bro!

Hi Everyone,

Well, here is another update! I have a bit of spare time at work now so I can work a bit more on it, otherwise, I'm restricted to my one hour lunch break. But coming along well I think, I am happy with it so far, except for some of the textures in the foreground (head texture, and branch around it) as these were done rather quickly...but maybe once covered with moss and other crap :-) it wont need to be changed.

well, here it is and comments are welcome...!

Hello!

Here is a small update;started to add my scatters for dead leaves, grass and small plants. The lighting changed a bit, dont worry about this, it will be fixed at hte end. Next step is to finish the temple, add more foliage and work on the lighting...also working on a mysterious effect...u will have to wait and see!

Very nice!

Reminds me of those amazing Ray Harryhausen Simbad films.

Maybe you could add a strong trough-the-trees light source over the statue, or something like that. It would add more depth to the piece.

Anyway, great work so far.

hey this is shaping up into a wonderful piece....nice lighting, and great texturing job....the only thing I suggest is maybe a subtle hint of a hot color, maybe something hidden in the ruins, maybe like orangey or yellowy?? I don't know....something to draw you eye around the piece...but overall beautiful!!

if you get a chance, try to play a little with lighting.

to give the illusion of depth you can design the lighting so that the front part of the picture gets more light and the further away, you get dimmer lighting.

now it looks like you use fog. It pales the objects further away and doesn't really work.

great modeling btw, like your concept

heres an update...working on finalizing the lighting, this render is without the light rays I have added... I am also gonna add some pale yellow or orangish flowers mixed with the grass.

ummmm...other than that, i modified some textures, put a background matte and added some foreground detail, also spruced up some of my textures a bit.

That looks incredable. The crispness to the detail with out it seeming CG sharp is great. THey don't get any better than this one. Really fantastic job, I can't wait to see the finnished piece.

Hello!

Here is a semi-final render...pretty much finished the lighting and modelling, texturing, even did a little post work in Aftereffects..I don't think I will add any more detail unless I want my computer to explode :-). Comments are welcome, as I am trying to decide exactly what to tweak...

thanks!

Hi. I like your composition, but it seems to that it's somehow lacking a bit of depth and drama. Why don't you try a test keeping the foreground in deep shadows (well, not complete darkness :) ) and lighting the temple area with a bright yellowish sunlight (maybe mapped with foliage shadows) ? Also adding dark defocused vines or leaves very close to the camera would give to the viewer the idea of spying/discovering those old hidden ruins.
Just my opinions to enhance an already great looking image! :)
bye

here it is...the final image. I got no more time to work on this, and I think its finished anyway. I wish i could post a larger image; the original size is 1200 wide, so at 710 wide, a lot of detail is lost! I've seen lots of posts of larger renders here; how do you guys do it??? I keep being told maximum size is 50 k...I am saving my images as Jpegs, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Ciao

The way you post a image larger than 50k is to put the file on annother site/server then do an IMG link to that file.

Thanks for the info...I will have to try that if I ever get a site up.
