Hey guys!
Maybe some of you will remember this little fella. I posted a sketch of him a a couple of months ago. I finally got time to make him 3D.Next step is animation. Question & comments are most welcome!

Enjoy!

Wow! lol he's so cute! great job! i really love the hair! Maybe make a render of him looking sideways like in the concept art, very cool :)

Glad you like it!
Thanks for the suggestion too, I'm modifying it right now!

The hair is fantastic. I would love to see this animated!
I also agree that the render should have the eyes looking sideways, it's more intriguing. And your sketch didn't feel as "shiny", can you dull down the brass texture a little, or wrap his legs like you have in the drawing?

Overall its really great work from concept to finish.

Lol...

I love it! It has a nice contrast to the commonly known "warrior" most people invision. Nice job JR Gauthier!

@ JR Gauthier

Great job. The only flaw I can point out is the arm braces/thingies. The could use a bit more segments (it's not entirely smooth). Anyway great job! The style is really cool

cute character and really close to your model sheet. The crest is on the opposite side as in your drawing but that's not really a problem.

now...how is that poor little guy is suppose to be able to handle such a hudge massif sword? I think you have 2 options...either make the sword smaller or his hands a bit bigger. I would make the sword smaller as it look disproportionate compare to your character.

I really like the hair and the eye shape but I can see some polygone edge on the eye contour, so maybe you can increase a bit of detail there to make it smoother? the face and chin is also very rough and pointy...whereas your original design show a rounder face.

so what software did you use and what did you use for the hair? do you have a wireframe render?

Hey! Thanks for the replies!

I know the 3d version is not exactly like the sketch version, but the character evolved a bit while I was modeling it. I really like it better with that pointy, low poly, feeling. I actually made a smoother version of the model but it didn't look as cool (seems like we always need to smooth everything in 3d those days? Right?). I'm gonna smooth out the eye contour thought.

Thanks again for the comments and keep em coming!

Also, here's a wireframe for you daniella3d. I used Maya 5.0, Shave and haircuts and Photoshop 6.

Haha! fantastic! Maybe a larger render so i can have a new desktop? (1280x1024)
Also, is there any backround story to this character? He kind reminds me of ninjai in a way. (as in a small dude kicking big dudes asses) :)
Also do you mind telling me how you set up your lighting scheme? It looks fantastic! What did you use to render? Just he maya software? ok, thanks again!

It's great job.. I like his hair, so I wonder how can make hair in maya. I don't understand, Would you mind expain this?
It's made by Plug-in or It's made by Painter-effect?
Which one??

Holy crap Cloud Strife turned in to a Elder Lenming! Ahhhh! lol. Sweet model man. He looks like he could do some damage lol

I want him for my game!! lol. HE could be like some little dude in the forest and when the main char notices him and says hi your dude goes postal on him lol that would rule just to see that lol

great one! Only thing is i see a "glow" or a shiny point on the draw (tip of the sword blade), and there's now any shiny on 3d version...But i hope this will be fixed in animation.
Fantastic model, hear and eyes gives alot character.
Hehe...i hope that sword will stick in his small fingers:cool:
Do i smell a frontpage material. I'm not sure but this is very good model from sketch.

Hey! Thanks all!

Scheme: Wow, frontpage, that sounds good! hehe! I know, those hands are a bit small compared to the sword, but I like the design that way, and I will try to animate him that way before I make any changes.

Ryan3D: The plug-in I used for the hair is called "Shave and haircut"

Shaykai: Here's a pic light setup. I can't tell you too much about is background right now thought..It's top-secret hehe ;) ...I planning to make a short film with this small guy eventually, so I keep the details for the movie.
The thing I can tell you thought is that "Un petit geant"(which is the title) means "A small geant" in english and that you couldn't be more right about "a small dude kicking big dudes asses", that's exactly what he is!

Oh..and yes I used the Maya default rendering.

I like the character alot! My only crit is there's something weird going on with the left eyball and eyelid. Looks like there's a space between the two on the lower left hand side?

Otherwise

Hey!(Salut!)
Thanks everybody!

Shaykai: Right now, I have no idea when a short film with this fella is gonna be ready, I wouldn't say before next year, that's for sure. (Thought, you can go check out the trailer of my first 3d animated short film on www.turboatomic.com, if it's not already done).

Ac0rN: About that 2d animation on my web site, I made it like 2 or 3 years ago, I don't remember really well how much time it took me to draw, I'd say maybe 6 or 7 hours total?? Not sure, I remember more that I didn't like the scanning part.

Signal to Noise: I'll check about that small gap you noticed.

Thanks again! See y'all!

Pretty cool JR.

I like the pose and the rendering very much.

Maybe you could do something to make the mouth more clear, it seems a little bit confusing for me maybe because he has a so little nose. Or maybe it will be more clear when it will be animated.

Have you had any time left to start animate him? I can't wait to see him moving!
