Iīm now setupping a bird.
And Iīm thinking of merging all things (feets, body, neb..., ok, NOT eyes) together in order to have it easy with weight-painting.

That sounds crazy, so Iīm not sure if to do it or not.
Has somebody already tried that, making a charakter, thatīs all one object?
Texturing should not be a problem ... Clusters.
I donīt only want to know thatīs wrong while animating.

Hi Thomas,

In fact this is a very good question!

I personally am a fan of merging everything together. This is much, much easier to manage.
-You deal with single mesh so
-It means that you have only one envelope
-Shapes for only one object
-A single texture projection

The only exception are the eyes, wich I keep seperate (easier to animate).

I use polygon clusters, but only to manage selections. For example, I have one cluster for eath tooth, one for the tongue, one for each piece of cloth, and so on. Never use clusters to texture, waaaaaaaay too much troubles rendering-wise. Also, a single projection and map is easier to manage than many.

cool, so my idea isnīt so stupid.

But I like using more textur-projections. For me itīs a faster workflow. OK, there are some bugs, but I think if you know them, you are faster working like that.
So would you only use one material for example for neb and head?
What I donīt like at clusters is, that I can only select the cluster itself and not the faces, or points in it.

To select the components of a cluster, select the cluster, than do MCP > Select > Select Members/Components.
