Anyone knows a good tutorial about making realistic fire? [with no plug-ins...]
i know about one in a site called "the 3d studio" - but they use a plug-in [that doesn't work for me btw...]

Well the 3dsmax fire plugin isn't the best. But you can create some okay results, by using several dummy objects. There's an ok tutorial in the max help, you should tjeck out.
Try tjeck out this tutorial by Niel Blevins... it's pretty good too.
