Great drawing, great colors, great composition!
09-29-2003, 05:20 PM
wow  This looks very good man
I like your style.
09-29-2003, 06:36 PM
very nice but around her hand and the conture of the face it seems a bit pixley
09-29-2003, 11:42 PM
This is an awesome piece. Good color choices... they really set a mood. I think you're very correct in thinking she'd be an unlikely mercenary, but I guess that could be a great trick. I mean who'd expect her?
09-30-2003, 11:26 AM
Wow, impressiv, very good style,
09-30-2003, 12:37 PM
Very nice, great atmosphere.
09-30-2003, 12:47 PM
Great piece, not only do I love this style of art, I love the lighting and mood of it. The way the light accents off her shirt and hair are very well done. The transperency with her little head garments are nicely done as well, and I love the eyes.
The only minor thing I would add (and it's minor) is some translucency (or SSS in 3D terms) to her ear, as it's catching some of the light.
Her hand is a bit awkward or backwards depending on the way you look at it. Is the strap over her left or right shoulder?
Nice work [plugged]
09-30-2003, 12:47 PM
Wow! Soooo sweet!
Nice composition and color scheme!
09-30-2003, 12:47 PM
It rocks man, as always, you keep impressing me. Excellent work.
However I miss the mercenary part ;)

I wish you could elaborate on your thoughts concerning this character while you were working.
I mean we all,I think,make storys while we create,at least I do.
The picture speaks volumes but I am intrested in your thoughts while working on this.
If not then the picture will tell its own story I guess.
Excellent work again.

09-30-2003, 01:27 PM
Very nice, I like it!
Have you got a website? I want see more your work!!
Great piece! :buttrock:
It's not only technically perfect; the mood you've achieved is wonderful. Not many artists are able to do that.
You earn my deepest respect!
09-30-2003, 02:11 PM
I absolutely love this! She is so cute! :D
Better put a website soon. We all would like to see more of your work. :)
09-30-2003, 02:19 PM
and nice 'feel' to the character.
I was wondering about the arrows in her quiver. Are the heads of the arrows sticking out? I thought the tails usually stick out so the archer can grab and place them in the bow quickly in one fluid movement... maybe she's a good merc cuz she does it different. Maybe I don't know jack about archery. :)
09-30-2003, 02:21 PM
its really nice, i think its a bit cartoon style but included some Chinese painting feeling, very nice!
I love it! esp the hair expression, very soft!
09-30-2003, 04:30 PM
Thanks everyone for the great feedback, it's greatly appreciated
Lildragon : The strap is over her right shoulder and she is holding it with her right hand; i realise her right sleeve is not very distinguishable from her breast in front of it, i ‘ll try to correct it. Many thanks for the plug, i’m very honoured
Wgeenlee1 : as for the thoughts behind the pic, they are a bit ridiculous but here it goes :
The initial idea was to design an old dreadful poisoner selling her services to mighty lords; then after watching some silly reality tv show about becoming a showbiz star, i turn the character into an apprentice poisoner much more concerned in keeping being pretty. She becomes a mercenary on the road because she also keeps being fired by unsatisfied employers..
Ridiculous isn’t it? Fortunately, it seems the end result is a bit more serious than my thoughts were .. :D
SpaceJase : it’s the tails of the arrows which are sticking out but they are shaped like little golden flames so i understand your confusion. It doesn’t matter much in her case however, about not knowing jack about archery, she’s the one!! :D
The|Buzz : I have a very poor website mainly stuffed with bird acrylic paintings and backgrounds for child educational game ( the stuff i do to earn my living.. more or less), so it has not much to do with the pieces i display on art communities and may looks quite disappointing to you, but if you care, click
here ! (http://roger146.free.fr)

So we don't need to upgrade to painter 8 and photoshop 7 :)
I love that
I hope you would have more time to do personnal work and stop working for others who don't have you aesthetic sense (I know about that).
09-30-2003, 05:15 PM

09-30-2003, 05:28 PM

09-30-2003, 05:41 PM
I really like your composition and the analogous color scheme that you are using.
The only thing I would like to see more of is maybe some leaves or flower petals blowing in the wind in the back ground.
09-30-2003, 05:50 PM
Hi! Nice one!
Wich part of the process did you use pshop and wich is painer? Why do you use two apps?
09-30-2003, 06:01 PM
this is simply wonderfull. i love the color and lighting as previouly stated by others but i also just like the character as well. the hair stands out the most to me for some reason. the pecock hair and the overall look of your line and highlights threw the hair is perfect. this i'll use as a model to do my hair from now on.
09-30-2003, 06:04 PM
great piece!!! love the colors and the fact that she doesn't hold true to the typical mercenary "look" great stuff
09-30-2003, 06:37 PM
Very nice! I have no words.
09-30-2003, 08:06 PM
beautiful composition and use of the color:applause:
09-30-2003, 08:18 PM
Nice work, i love the mood of the picture, her face has a lot of emotion. Very well done:buttrock:
09-30-2003, 10:14 PM
I really like the contrast between what appears to be a "weak" character, yet the sword suggests otherwise.
I'm not sure why we focus so much on the "little-girl" warrior, but I think we really like that aggressive innocence
Either way, your work is phenominal. I remember feeling the same reaction from some of your previous work. I can gladly see that you've kept us in a state of awe.
09-30-2003, 10:45 PM
Very Nice! :applause: I really like the mood. I agree that her hand, bent back as it is looks a little uncomfortable...
The thing that bugs me the most is that it is cut off on the right side. I kept wanting to widen my window so I could the rest of the arrows.
09-30-2003, 10:46 PM
Very nice work, one crit, if those are arrows on her back they would _never_ be placed with the tips out! They should be reversed, and the feathery ends could be similar to what is in her hair. As it is, they are hard to distinguish as arrows, if that is in fact what they are?
09-30-2003, 11:00 PM
   need i say more
10-01-2003, 12:04 AM
awesome work Roger,
at what resolution did you do the image? how many time you spent? i'm curious :)
10-01-2003, 03:21 AM
love the face, the eye's portray much
emotion, leaves corectiong hair things
also add to the scene.
This pic tells many posable stories, keep it up....
10-01-2003, 03:21 AM
wow...Very nice colors! Sweet!
10-01-2003, 03:50 AM
Very nice painting, I like the style and colors alot.
and to the post before mine: What is that?
10-01-2003, 04:09 AM
Lovely art. She doesn't have to look like a typical mercenary with a shaved head and tatoos to be a mercenary. I like your approach...its unique and fits the description fine. The only crit I have is the tear duct. Could be just me but it looks too light....I thought she was crying at first.
10-01-2003, 05:27 AM
shes so cute!
I really like the hair style...
10-01-2003, 08:32 AM
Wow, man, what is it with you French guys?!
10-01-2003, 10:59 AM
Thanks guys for all those comments :)
WhiteBlaizer : i worked at 300 dpi on this pretty small pic (2181 x 1417 px). it took me about 10-15 hours to comlplete it but this is not really meaningful; when i paint for my own pleasure, i work in a really really leisurely way ;)
Xaint : i used the two appl merely for personal convenience, nothing peremptory; generally speaking, the large brush work is done in Painter while the details and the final steps are in PS.
Sinthetic : those are arrows and its their tails which are sticking out but i agree, it's not very distinguishable and i guess i should do something about it since you're not the only one to have pointed it out.
FXZR : I think i get your point; i agree those earings are rather poorly designed and executed in comparison with the rest. good catch!
10-03-2003, 04:05 AM
very very nice... wow. I wouldn't say an improbable merc... remember the hottie in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
10-03-2003, 03:48 PM
Great colors and cool hair. specially the endings
i realy like it.
one little thing disturbs me though, but it might just be me.
Its the shading of the aerea at and above her shoulder. something doesn't seem to be right with it (to me).
10-03-2003, 08:22 PM
That looks really cool.
I love the colors.
Keep up the good work:D
10-05-2003, 12:48 PM

What a great piece, I browsed past it in the Gallery, and instantly fell in love with. As mentioned, its a great atmosphere.
The colours are warm, but the whole scene looks cold with her wrapping her self up, a strong breeze, and an anxious glance.
The scene, backdrop and character have come together really beautifully.
A mecenary? Who is she? Does she have special skills? Not the sort of person you find offering mercenary skills, but I presume she has some special skills, (archery?).
What would you think of the picture if you didn't know its title, if you didn't know she was a mercenary? A very thought provoking image.
10-10-2003, 02:50 PM
the only thing that i want to say is the line btw head n neck look
weird a bit..the light is too obvious..
10-10-2003, 07:14 PM

Very very nice! :buttrock:
