Salutations,

I've opened this thread for posting suggestions to the "new" concept modelling challanges. The main reason for this is to keep the SMCs threads clean and focused on the SMCs.

So the main idea is that we start doing challanges where people model from a concept image already made. Time limit for each model would be a bit longer (I guess 5 or so hours), and each challange would last for a few weeks (I guess 3 or so weeks). This way we keep it "short" and "speedy", and a bit different than the hardcore modelling challanges.

Where to get the concept images?
We can ask the peeps in the sketch forum to help out, and we can also browse the net for them. (like http://conceptships.blogspot.com/ or http://www.conceptart.org/)

I figure about 5 concept images, ranging from mechanical to organic, should suffice.

Got any suggestions, comments, critiques?

I would first ask the sketchers around these forums here... the net does not provide the best concept sketches most of the time, but who knows what we can come up with =)

All in all i'm very excited and can't wait to get my hands on the first sketches ;)

Was waiting for more replies and I thought that there would be more interest in this, not sure my skills are up for par yet.
But lol I could always give it a try.... :)

Sounds good above Msus, perhaps we should just get it started and see what happens?

Wouldn't it suffice with one concept each time? And everyone did the same concept?
I think we could teach eachother that way aswell.....hmm..perhaps a bad idea?

We could do just once concept at a time. "Hardsurface" or organic to start off?

I would vote for hardsurface the first time around. :)

Btw have you guys found any concepts? I did a quick search but I think it should be possible to find something in the beginning here though, to start off with at least.

Found some. Dunno which to use. I did a search on deviant art and other concept forums. Did not want to wait for peeps to draw us new concepts :)

Here are some concept from a Mike Doscher (http://mikedoscher.blogspot.com/ and http://malaveldt.deviantart.com/)

Found a real detailed one, I have a bigger version. Not sure how you would categorize a suit model though? Probably somewhere in between organiz and hard surface?
Think this would be what I am striving for to be able to solve as a model, believe myself to be in need of more mileage with the software I am using though, not there yet....

I'd go for one concept at a time too... would make it possible to compare different modeling approaches and techniques.

I see if i can come up with some hard surface concepts tomorrow... I like the first Space-Ship concept and the Suit-Guy as a mix between hard and organic surface.
