Hi Zelda64,
I'm writing a learning blog that has a few articles on the topic. You can browse all topics here. http://www.cgmascot.com/about/archives/
I introduce the blog here.

I use Modo a lot as well.
Other than that, instead of always linking to my own work, this is a good one for character modeling, though not exactly modeling for animation. The teacher uses Maya but you can do all the same, and easier, in Modo.

And of course the interweb is filled with free tutorials. Tutorial portals are a good place to search. I used to browse 3D Total a lot for this topic, once upon a time, but there is likely many more others available now.
Many seem to like http://www.3dbuzz.com
