Hey Chris, I did not know Olivier Thill's work, really good stuff
Your knew character looks great, I like the non symmetric details but (yeah there is always a but), your characters always look the same (yeah I know, look who is talking, the guy who made 5 ironmans), they all have similar faces. How about a chick for once?

Fantastic dude!!
This guy is awesome, i have been modelling and texturing in Photshop for 2 years now and just getting into mudbox/zbrush!
Could you suggest any of your favourite resources to get to the level you are?
Would you model your character in max/maya/modo and then bring it into mudbox then sculpt it, what is the best workflow for producing something that good?
Thanks a lot, well done :-)

Hey Chris, I did not know Olivier Thill's work, really good stuff
i discovered his work last Friday ..
i am very impressed with it .
he manage to transfer the franco/belge graphic novel style very well into 3d
as a mtter of fact , we might do a collaboration in teh same way that we did with your pyro and mini iron man :-)
your characters always look the same (yeah I know, look who is talking, the guy who made 5 ironmans), they all have similar faces. How about a chick for once?
yes.. i know .. i feel like i am cursed .. and that i would never find peace until i get that ****er out of my head in a final way .. each version of him is getting better but i am always going back to it .. this is pathetic :-(
i did use a lot of reference from diferent source for nose , eye lips .. and so on .. but somehow my brain ..bring it back on the screen .
as for doing a woman , better not , until i manage to get ride of that dude .. or she would end up looking like a transexual version of him .
Could you suggest any of your favourite resources to get to the level you are?
working .. working.. and then even more working :-)
Would you model your character in max/maya/modo and then bring it into mudbox then sculpt it, what is the best workflow for producing something that good?
i model the base in maya ( or where ever you want to do it ) then bring it into mudbox ( or zbrush ..if you feel more confortable )
and start sculpting .. do and redo it many time .. until i am happy with it ..
i guess the key is to not be afraid to start again and again ..

as for doing a woman , better not , until i manage to get ride of that dude .. or she would end up looking like a transexual version of him .Nah I don't want to see that guy with tits. But finish him right, once for all, then boobies
working .. working.. and then even more working :-)
Indeed, I have only been working with maya and mudbox for 3 months, but about 10 hours a day, and man, I made more progress those 3 months than in past 3 years. I whish I could show my work, but no can't do. I'll have to find the motivation for a sculpt at home sometime, I don't know how you do it

:Dhey Christophe! that looks damn sweet man! I'd say it's your best sculpture so far. Got no critics right now. I really find interasting the way his eyes are right now. they might seem strange at first, but i believe they really give a very interasting and unique feel to the character.
I do agree with the "characters always having " the same feeling tho :pi guess we will call this someday "the christophe style"

just a question: is the displacement handled by your GPU renderer (I forgot the name) or did you directly import the high res mesh?
xtrm3d
09-07-2010, 05:39 PM
i di duse bunkspeed shot on those one
no displacement at all ..raw geometry + a bump map ,..
i can squeeze r around 2.5 to 3 millions polys + a couple of maps in my gpu memory ( 1.54 gig )
the stallone lookalike .. was rendered in CPU mode .. ( no limitation , just not as fast as gpu mode )

Hi Christophe,
Well done, that character would fit well in Neo-Tokyo Akira world ( finished reading the all serie only yesterday :P) ... with the skull face and all that...
Hope you will give him a gun , or a bike.

thanks,
i always have been a big fan of akira .. i might still have all the volume from the 1990 glenat edition somewhere in an attic back in france .
and i still have very fond memories of the premiere in paris in 91 !! :-)
i was more going for a ""yamakazi"" style of character ...
i could see a cartoony bosozoku biker in the near future ..
but first i have to finish this one ,... and finalise the render on your plane before takling any other project :-)
