Hi gang,

I just uploaded a bunch of video tutorials about coffee scripting to YouTube.
After typing "Coffee scripting tutorials" and getting basically nothing in the way of tutorials. I decided to post some of my own.
I'm not quite finished with it yet. But I'm tired, so I'm taking a short break before I finish the series.

They're targeted for the absolute beginners out there that want to learn the basics. So if you already know scripting, they probably won't be worth looking at.
At some point I plan on doing some on more advanced subjects like array's and loops. But it's hard to find the time to do these things.

This is the first video tutorial series I've ever done. So don't expect too much. :)

Brilliant, just watched the first 2 and within minutes i have a script that makes editable and optimises ( i will have to figure out how to automate the OK for the optimise command)

Not sure what effect R12 will have on this as i guess R12 will lean towards Python a lot

Scripting coffee and xpresso training have been so neglected by MAXON, i cannot see why as something like xpresso is so important to cinema 4d and predates anything other apps have by years. I would have thought MAXON would have shouting from the rooftops proclaiming it's abilities rather than quietly ignoring it

Scripting ( be it with coffee or python) needs more tutorials like these and xpresso needs to be shown off to it's full potential, teach us oh great ones !!

I'm glad that you guys are diggin' them.

I did make a few small mistakes along the way. Like calling the script manager a compiler (out of habit) when it's actually an interpreter. But the bad thing with videos is you can't just erase your mistakes like text tutorials.
I'm not quite comfortable with this whole making videos thing yet.
When I turn on that recorder. My mind tends to go blank like a deer caught in headlights.:)

Hi Scott, this is really excellent stuff! Thank you for doing it. I hope a lot of people write to encourage you to keep going with these, as it can be a thankless task doing all this work without positive feedback. This is something that many of us will find very useful to refer to again and again and which has been missing for such a long time.

I watched all the videos so far and have found them very useful, even though I have dipped into coffee many a time. I like your approach to teaching, it is very thorough and you do try to address some difficult concepts in a very straight forward manner.

Thanks again, personally, I look forward to what ever comes next.

By the way, are you open to requests for videos further clarifying concepts you are addressing (without of course getting silly about it and asking unreasonable things)?

Thanks again for the nice comments.
I just uploaded the last videos for the series.

The main reason I did this was because when I ran a poll in the scripting forum. Most people voted that they needed more help with the basics.
My plan was to do these Artist videos. Then go back and update my Coffee Bible because it's still kind of weak.
I guess I'm open to requests. But I'm not really sure how much time I can spend on this stuff. And I can't make any promises to anyone.

Initially, all I wanted to do was to create the basic structure of the Coffee Bible. And then let everyone in the community contribute to it to share the workload. But that never panned out.
I never intended to take on doing all of this stuff by myself.
Plus I've only been coding for about 6 months now. So I'm still learning and trying to figure out how to do certain things myself. So I'm not sure if I'm even qualified to take requests.

Thank you Scott! Very generous tutorials for a task that is not easy to find training material for, subscribed and watching :)

Nah. Remember that discussion we had at the 3DCafe about charging for rigging tutorials a while back my friend?
I will never charge (or ask for donations) people just for information. Unless I make my full time living at it. I'm firm on this.

Besides that. I don't know what you guys are talking about because these tutorials are really horrible and not worth charging for anyway.
I'm um'ing and duh'ing all over the place in them. And I really screwed up a couple of times saying things like "the loop skips the prepass section here". Oye! what was I thinking!?
I even felt like deleting them at one point because I hate it when wrong information gets posted to the internet like that.
But since there are no other tutorials on this subject and people are liking them. I decided to leave it up. Warts and all.
