View Full Version : Understanding Texture Baking - help

Why my object is not displaying its baked texture in the viewports?
It only shows a flat white color.
I do remember have checked the checkbox for "Show baked in Viewport", so I don't get it.
I can also see that it doesn't create a "Shell Material" as the Max5 Tutorials say it will.
I created it myself once I noticed this, but eventhough I am clearly assigning the baked mat to be displayed in the viewport it just doesn't.

Any ideas?

thanks,

it does make the maeterail, it just doesnt put it outright into the metarial editor..you have to use the get meterial icon..and then select "scene "option..and theres the baked meterial..then just assign it to yur mesh..capice?..as far as it not showing up in the viewport right away..not sure why it would do that..by default it does..so you may have unchecked somthing you shouldnt have..reset it to the defaults..even when it does show up in the viewport it kindof looks like crap any way..:thumbsdow

I think you need to set the material
ID's for that to work. I saw a tutorial
on 3dtotal.com that discussed it.
You might check there.

are you using any plugin like ghost painter ?
I had the same white color because of ghost painter.
If this is the case, you need to press the update button in ghost painter.

Uzik, I'm afraid I had already set the IDs. It must be something else.

Noon, no, I'm not using ghost painter :(

Thanks anyway guys :)

I missed Mankor's advice...
I just tried it now, but I didn't find the baked material in the list from "Scene" in the Material /Map Browser. But then again, I have done so many things by now that chances are I have already altered something along the way that is preventing this from working :(
I'll do another test soon from scratch.

thanks Mankor :)

Make sure you are always in DirectX mode. And that your card's drivers handle it well.

MMmm...
That could well be the culprit, TheWriter. For although I do have DirectX 9, and correctly installed according to Win2k (sp3), the ATI Radeon 9600Pro utility says it's not correctly installed. Also, 3DSmax5 cannot use the DirectX mode. I guess I should try to reinstall those drivers eh?

P.S. I'm running max on OpenGL
