- The speed modelling challenges are open to everybody.
- In every challenge you will get a list of items. Pick one and try to model it as fast as possible. If you want, you can do all of them.
- Do not exceed the time limit of the challenge. If you're out of time and still haven't finished, post the unfinished model.
- If you finish before the time limit, spend the remaining time on refining and adding details to your model.
- Focus on modelling. Shading, lightning and "proper" rendering are optional (and thus not limited by time).
- Take as much time for reference hunting as you need.
- When posting your model make sure you post a wireframe of your model. (try to do more then one view of the model).
- You can do any challenge you want. The challenges are not closed when the SMC passes. If you fancy an older challenge, do that.
- For the concept items you have to create your own designs. If possible post the design images as well.

Items (2h time limit)

- shopping cart,
- microphone,
- Bender Bending Rodrigez,
- sloop,
- trombone,
- MIR (the space station),
- buffalo,
- rollerblades,
- cow,
- football pitch.

Concept items (3h time limit) - design it yourself!

- rocket-powered wheelchair,
- steam-powered unocycle,
- running shoes.

Happy modelling!

Sometimes you get brainfreeze when trying to rough out some detail, this time I found myself having problems with circular details on the trombone, those where some of the pipes attaches to. Solved it by making a tube and delete one half, then detailed the rest of the tube circular. Lost more than 30 minutes because of that I kept remaking it but; keep doing makes perfect? lol
Not a perfect fix though because on a real trombone you would find that, that circular detail -shape is real crisp...

//* Btw that reflection clearly got some issues, shouldn't blame the render engine though but this time I feel I have to, haha ok nevermind move along *//

Guess you learn something new every day. Didn't thought it was necessary to have reflective surfaces as solid, but boy was I wrong.
Got a messed up reflection and I tried to fix it with draw normals which wasn't sufficient, I have seen this similar though with glass surfaces which has to be solid in order to calculate the reflection....
Hmm gotta remember that for next time, don't feel like re-model the whole thing though. :(

Tried environmental lighting, looks better than default. lol

Looks good. The reflection on the second image is way better as there's actually something to reflect. That's why I use HDR images when doing reflective stuff (like brass, chrome, metal), as it adds details to the textures.

So, I took a stab at the shopping cart. I started wanting to do a cart like the ones I have around here, but I couldnt find any on the google.

So, it didnt really turn out right at all. :hmm:

I was 8mins over on my time so i just tried to finish it when I saw I wasn't going to make it in time.

I need to come up with a plan before I start modeling :P I never do that.

Things I should have done in retro spec.
I shouldn't have made the pipes so dense. It really slowed things down.
I should have gone to my grocery store and took some reference shots of the cart I wanted to model.
I should have sketched it out 1st. Helps get the juices flowing for procedure modeling. (model one tube, copy instead of doing many of the same operations on one piece. :argh:

Ok, I was confused. Google was showing soccer feilds but I thought it was to model the little do hickey that holds an american football in place during a kick off.

Cool looking bender, only point of critique is his mouth, never saw him deform his mouth that way...

I'll give Bender a try too i think :buttrock:

PinkyAnd Brain, thank you, yea I think you're right. :) ..Haven't watched futurama since the first season so I might be off with a lot of stuff.
I'm more of a Simpsons fan, but if I have to choose I guess South Park rocks the most. lol.

All the talk about football pitch made me try it too, haven't heard that word before either.

Football Pitch, 20 minutes. //*Was gonna add particles hair to make grass but it started to eat computer power way too much and in the end it is not worth it unless one is doing a realistic interpretation of that particular field.*//

Hey Guys this is my try at modeling Bender Bending Rodriguez.. first i thought it was not that hard but i ran into some smoothing issues around his hatch what cost me some amount of time unfortunatly

Nothing too spectacular :(

Pinky - Yea you were right you know, it was simply movement in his eyes....
His mouth is only the wires moving.
Looked up some Bender clips on youtube.

Was within timeframe with Bender so I made som experiments with the eyes, remade the head and mouth *didn't take that long so I am not adding any time...

Wow, good work everybody. Really like the benders :)

I like the topology on the buffalo, just "beef" up the back legs and you're good to go.
