Good day all:

I'm doing my first character model
for animation. I think I know where
all the problem areas are, but wanted
to make sure I haven't missed any...

I think I've got eyes figured out.
I know how to setup a dummy and
get the eyes to follow it.

I know there are problems with
low poly characters at the shoulders,
elbows, and knees. When the mesh
deforms because of bending I need
more vertices to allow it to deform
well.

Is there a good max tutorial on
rigging the mouth so the character
can talk?

Well there won't be much that we can suggest unless we see wireframes or something. As for facial animation, look into the morph modifier, max documentation first, then look over at 3dtotal, or 3dcafe for some tutorials. That should tide you over for awhile, good luck

Thanks, hadn't heard of 3dtotal. I'll do up a wireframe too.

I notice a lot of tutorials they don't use
character studio bipeds. Why are they
doing their own bones? It seems biped
would be much simpler, and you can
save animations as .bip files.

Here's a hip wireframe:

I added an extra fold line along to
allow the leg to bend forward and up
