Okay basically I have a motion capture assignment. We were required to do a two person capture. However out of 4 takes, one character's data would always be horribly messed up while the other person's data is fine. I'm thinking of using one character's data from one take, and mixing it with another character's data from another take. Then hide or delete the two additional characters.

However I'm not really familar with Motion Builder. Can anyone tell me how I can do this?

Alternatively, could I simply import both pieces of FBX data into Maya and render it from there?

Thanks.

Hi Cathyy,

To do what you are suggesting - delete the character that isn't working and save the scene (part A). Repeat the process to get a scene containing a working version of the other character (part B). Now File>>Merge>> the two files together into a single scene, making sure you have all the Element and Animation Boxes ticked in the Merge Options window and that the Takes in each scene have the same name (otherwise you will end up with 2 takes in your combined scene and only one character animated)

It might be also be necessary to Add a Namespace to the objects in your scene before you Merge in the other scene to avoid naming conflicts. This is especially important if you need to export your scene back in to Maya. (if the objects you are merging have the same name as the objects in the current scene MotionBuilder will add a "1" to the end of the names of the objects. This is will prevent you importing the animation back in to Maya correctly as the joint names will have changed.)

Alternatively you could import the two separate files you've created back on to your characters in Maya and then combine the the two files in Maya.

Hope this makes sense
