I have a problem making edge with smooth shit.

Heres the object and a chosen edge that I want it to be shifted inside

...so I use smooth shift...

...you notice how the section is shifted in to the model. Well at the closer look at the edge i get this overlaping broken edges:

how can I avoid that?. Also is there a free alternative to bevel ++?

I would bevel the edge of the interior first (via edgebevel) to give it a "foundation" to withstand the shifting.
