Hi, here is a small test render - its 100% nativ maya no plugs or compositing

maybe the light at the left is too high make a soft light that help a lot for the picture
l like the texture
nice job btw

I think the focus should be set on the part thats nearer, it gives a dizzy feeling currently.

Heh, I was tempted to flame 'cos of the title (thought the pic was gonna be a Lambet-shaded sphere;) , but with the pic I see where you are going... very nice, the overall impression is near perfect.

The 2 things I found:

- The bumps on the inside look a bit strange where the light hits them from the right.

- The ground under the bowl needs to be darker. I don't know how you lit the scene, but I think there should be more shadows.

Still - congratulations, nice proof that a good looking render depends on the artist, not on the renderer!

i'm new to maya so i cant really comment on the technical aspects but i like what u acheived there. something to shoot for :D

the first impression is great :)

but i think the strenght here is in the texturing mostly

upon examining it closely it feels as though the bowl is not placed firmly on the ground,there isn't enough shading around the bottom of it

also,the reflection (water? I cant say for sure as it projects some strange geometry) seems a bit too clear and undisturbed.
dont know if maya has blurred reflection options in the arsenal,but you can blur the reflection map (photoshop) if you used one or even better apply some bump/displacement to the surface

also,it seems to me there are some texturing inconsistencies inside above the water level

or am i simply seeing it all wrong?

Hey, looks alot nicer than my first at maya...:D

My $0.02: The bump, as pointed out by kandyman, looks strange at the right part of the pot, might wanna fix it up.

You probably made this scene as a test and as such it's very nice, but to develop it abit, add something to focus on, for example, a simple toy boat in the water...:bounce:

Keep it up! :thumbsup:

Hi all and iam happy for the comments - so i will answer to some statements

@S E D A H
there is a sunset at the right and i like the bright light - my goal is to simulate a real foto with a analog cam

@kandyman
all people attack maya´s renderer but i think there is still potential
this pic render < 1 min - the texture is a shadernetwork no real texture is in it - its ceramics with small pebble and it is a random prozess where the pebble step to the surface
The ground light is a problem - it seems the pot hover over the ground - i have to fix that ;)

@LNT
no the light is most important - iam very pleased with the water the gound is dark and the reflection is near 100% the water surface
is not plane there is movement the cam shots 500/sec foto :p
blurred reflection is a good ideal maya have no blurred reflection
i have to fake that

@Korgath
sorry no toy boat:shame:

so thats all - thaks for opinion

This pixelated line is a pure CGI giveaway. Just increase AA a bit and everything's fine ;)

Hi,

nice looking image and particularly the ground texture :)

But you should (as m entionned earlier) increase the tesselation of the water. Displace here gives a too facetized look.
Add also a little fresnel ramp into your reflectivity.

Another thing disturbs me:
something's wrong with the lighting. Your bump doesn't react well in the inner of the cup.
It's like passes through the geometry. Try to find out why.

Maybe, add a projected circular ramp to fake contact shadows. This will look terrific ;-)

Oh, DOF!! Maybe you could decrease slightly the focusDistance, and be more focused on the water.
Lower also the FStop a bit to add more DOF.

And the last thing (sorry to be that critic, but you're very close :-)) is about the grey thing just between the metal and water.
If it's the wet metal, work some more on it
Basically it's the same material, but with a lower colorGain, very reflective and with sharp highlights on the bump.

Good luck, waiting to see the final render ;)

I understand this was your work. Why call it "100% pure maya". Maya is just a tool. It's important what you do not what you do it with.

The reflection in the water is very jagged. Maybe smooth out the water-plane.

Oh my god pixho is in da house:bounce:

@pixho
how can i put little fresnel ramp into reflectivity?
where i have to put projected circular ramp to fake contact shadows?

@Jacko Cohen
yes thats right - blame me

ok here is a new step

http://swag02.bei.t-online.de/test08.jpg

i sharpen it a little bit (poor)

bye and thaks for comments

Mmmh, I should have said: add a ramp to make a little fresnel effect to your reflectivity.
A fresnel effect is based on incidence angle. The more the normals of your obejcts are perpendicular to your pov (cam), the more the object gets reflective.
Connect a facingRatio to the U or Vccord of a ramp, keep 2 gray scale values and set a higher value for glancing angles.
Connect the ramp outAlpha in your reflectivity.

and imho, I prefered the older blurred texture.

Emmanuel

Oops, just try to lower the overall luma of the cup, you're really too washed out here (maybe use another fresnel ramp :-))

Ciao

looks to me, your dept of field is photoshop dept of field because of the waaaay to sharp/out of focus effect

take a look at the yellow sections and compare to the latest (pure) maya render...

Yes, ure right but the maya DOF is a post DOF and it is not so good and i have sharpen the pic in ps after rendering so some bluring from the DOF is gone hmm
