View Full Version : Noob question how to make face of a coin
Hello, I"m relatively new to modeling. I've done some basic stuff but right now I need some help getting pointed in the right direction. I'm not sure which words to search, what I'm trying to do is basically make a cookie mold of sorts. 2 sides, a heads and a tails of a coin, with the faces embossed, so they protrude just like a normal quarter.
Can you point me in the right direction, tips on what to search for?

if you want to create a coin, search up how to texture and UV map tutorials, would prob be easiest to use a image of the coin, diffuse and bump map for starters.

Displacement maps will create geometry (unlike bump maps).
Naming he used software would it make easier to help.
I'm trying to create something to be printed at shapeways, into a physical mold of sorts. In this particular case, I don't believe just having a bump map would work. The second post seems to be what I'm needing to do.
I have cinema4d, and that's the only program I am familiar with.
I really appreciate the help, I know it's a pain to answer such low level questions.

Also normal maps if the application doesn't like displacement maps...

Not a pain at all.
In Cinema 4d displacement maps are amazing!
@scrimski - Good call man!
