Very nice!

What you should do:

Make all lights (such as form inside the house, or light poles) much more bright, and some of the light should be directly reflected on the floor. Wet rocks become reflective and therefore should have more specularity from such lights.

Give it a try, play with the idea of light poles too:)

I agree with mr. kefka up above...

I would try adding more contrast in your piece, particularly with any lights from the houses or from the lightpoles. Looks good though, but it seems somewhat flat because of lack of contrast and depth.

thanks for your comments fellas,

some good points.

Reflections..... duh. Forgot to switch them back on after having them disabled for the hundreds of tests I was doing! oooops.

Re-render!

As for the depth thing.... it has been a headache getting the right balance I want. The original render has a lot more depth, but I want an old northern english feel, so I chose to have the 'film stock' as quite old looking and old film can look very flat, add the fog (Botchester is always rainy) and it takes yet more depth away. Its a pain. I shall tweek more. The scene hasn't been populated yet. When its completely finished, it will have robots and vehicles scattered about.

The modeling of the street lights do need more work. I may have them switched on too. The original render is brighter, so I figured street lights wouldn't be lit.... since this scene is set about mid-day but once the film effect goes on it does make things look darker.

something to think about

cheers

Wow I really like the soft look. Grainy and blurry, but in a good way. Any chance of seeing this animated? :)

The fog is really nice....
i can say.. the purpose of having some buildings lack of light is due to the residents who is sleeping in there... to get the coldness of the rain..
All lights off :D

very sad picture, maybe add more life to it by putting lights and other things.

Are there any doors on those houses? Maybe that was intentional, but anyway, nice work.
