View Full Version : HELP - I canīt translate anymore
thomas123 09-26-2003, 04:34 PM My translation-tool doesnīt work anymore. With a script, or snapping - that worked, but ...
Scaling and Rotation works, but tranlating not.
I have absolutely no idea, and have tried everything possible, but...
Does anyone know this problem? I was sitting so long on that stuff. I canīt find out, whatīs going on there !! - (And I have to get ready)
So please help!
thomas

You should provide more details... 'my translation tool doesn't work' doesn't help in figuring out what might be wrong. eg you could mention if this is happening in every scene, even new ones, or a particular scene. Also have you checked your keyboard mapping to see if the key has become reassigned or something, and anything else you think is relevant...

OK, I forgot some things to write:
Itīs only in my actually scene - in the other scenes it works.
when I press the mouse button, the axis highlightes, but else no effects - it doesnīt move ... only when I snap, (but I canīt snap all my stuff ...)

Is this for all of the object in the scene or just a couple of them what are your translation settings at right now ie is it in porportional local global ect. have you tried freezing the stuff you want to translate? Let me know about this stuff in the mean time if you want a fast workaround and you havn't started anything besides modeling yet you could try various export/import routes. ie merge your scene into a blank scene, export a dot xsi, export a model...... try some of this stuff and see what happens also try to keep track of what you were last doing before you noticed this happening so that you can try not to have it happen again and let us know so it dosn't happen to us.
EDIT: are there any constraints in your scene
btw babblefish is a language translation tool on the web. that post was a very bad pun

this is for all object in this scene, so I usually would guess it is something in the tool options, but ...
I think, I have (without knowing what) switched anything of or on.
It is not the first time, that this problem is here. But the most time I only exported my scene at dotXSI. This time I canīt, because it is already setuped. If I really donīt find out, why, perhaps I have to. (Iīm working with XSI 3.5)
no, there are no constraints.
when I export as dotxsi, make model, or even merge into a a new (blank) scene, translation works ... but merging can be very unpleasent, expecially with layers.
When I snap, it works.
moving only points, also does NOT work. But scaling or rotation, does.
When I make a new object in this scene, it also does NOT work.
The "m-tool" (in the standard keys, pressing "m") also does NOT work, but with snaping (ALT) it DOES.
OK, this is all I know, I hope somebody can "guess", what the problem can be.

Is this the same scene where you have everything scaled up very large ? You could be running into the precision limits of XSI.. Try scaling something down (just for testing), press 'R' to reset view, and see if translating works. If it does, then that's your problem right there..
miyazaki, wtf you think you're doing here? helping? no. you can put your smartass attitude elsewhere but not here.
a decent mod would ban you for that crap. (edit: accent on *decent*)
btw babelfish was NEVER a translation tool.

Have you tried freezing all transforms on the objects affected?

yes, the problem is different
itīs in each object in the scene, and when I make a new object, Itīs the same
The scene is not too big, in the earlier versions, where the scene has the same size, it works.

Thank you for all your replies, but nothing really worked.
I have to go on working...
I will now make the risky step and export with a model everything into a new scene (last time I had problems in the afterline while animating)
Perhaps I have ruined my scenes with my plugins installed. (I have never had this before) Re-Installing also was no solution.

If you have had bad experiances with exporting models before I would place everything on your layers under nulls then merge the into a new scene to get rid of teh problem and use teh nulls to help create new layers....

the idea is good, but in this case itīs not possible ... because some objects that are parented to others are in some other layers than the children.

what about groups? ......

yeahh, groups ...
... I have already exported everything, and made new layers.
