Hi fellow cgtalkers..
I have a huge problem which I cannot seem to solve :(
I bought a new computer 3 days ago;
3 Ghz, 2x512 dualDDR, Radeon 9800 pro 256 MB.

Maya runs slower and games lag (3dmark|03 and AquaMark run very slow). Maya actually runs ALOT slower than my previous computer (2Ghz, 512DDR, GF3ti200). We're talking really slow, I can't model in Maya at all.

I beg you.. Do you have any tips of what I can do or maybe know anything that can solve this?!

Thank you for your time :)

What speed is your ram? What speed are your system drives? Do you have hyper threading enabled? Are your video drivers up to date? If all of these things are cool then, its time to start thinking about overclocking that 9800 pro. Its actually very easy even with stock cooling.

your problem is obviously not going to be solved by overclocking

did you install both the intel inf installer and application accelerator? is the cpu actually running at 3ghz (fsb 200) ? did you install the latest ati drivers and dx9?

I installed the Intel inf (forgot that :) ) and that fixed some of the problems actually (maya included) so I'm very greatful for your help mate. The cpu is running at 2999mhz with 200x4 FSB and latest drivers.

But what do you mean by "application accelerator" ?

so is it running at full speed now? the inf installer was just a suggestion, i doubt that it actually solved your speed problems :shrug.

run sisoft sandra (or some other generic benchmark that tests seperate components(cpu, ram..) and lets you compare your's to other systems). if everything's working correctly your values should be within 5% of similar systems.

i'd also check out 3dmark to compare your graphics card performance to that of other systems, just to make sure it's running at the speed it's supposed to.

look for the intel application accelerator in intel.com's download section. it's a tool for speeding up & configuring your ide ports. this kind of chipset software should always be installed FIRST, meaning as soon as you boot into your newly installed O/S.

Well actually the inf installer fixed the maya problem.. (when I load in a reference picture, the computer went horribly slow).

all the better, glad i could help :)

i'd still hit some benchmarks just to make sure that shiny new rig performs like it's supposed to :wip:

Yeah... well.. I compared the resaults with reviews.. (aquamark|03, 3dmark03 and 01) I get higher scores on all three benchmarks but some of the demos still lag like hell.. Especially aquamark|03 which is down at 10 fps at times..

Well I guess I was just expecting a monster machine..

Thanks again btw :D

Yeah that inf file makes all the difference ,make sure you have the latest from your board maker also.
I was getting less than half the performane i get now in 3d mark and specview perf before i loaded the right inf file up.
I was so close to sending my video card back to the shop.Took me like 2 weeks of trouble shooting to sort that out .I couldnt believe when i updated the inf file what a difference it made!
