ya, I mentioned this in my GPU renderers article on Ars. Great news. I might actually get a Mac Fermi Quadro 4000 after all.

Nice to see they are adding physical dispersion in V-Ray 2.0 - finally a renderer other than Maxwell that can do it.

I hope the add a student version with 2.0. I talked to Chaosgroup and they told me it will be available in near future...

Just testing it now....realtime physical DOF is great (among other things!) Feels like using a real life camera with all the instant feedback, however only seems to be CPU at the moment in its early stages.

I thought they already showed GPU rendering with it. What is your gfx card?

where'd you get it? The beta server just has 150 nightlies.

They have a CPU fallback for RT in case people don't have good GPUs. Maybe there's a setting somewhere to change it to GPU or it's not in the build you have.

From what I understand Vray for Maya is fairly new ? The company I work for is considering trying a switch to Vray, so naturally I did some research for learning resources but most of them seems to be for Max. Does anyone have some good links for Vray tutorials for Maya ?

most of the tutorials are for Max but the workflow is basically the same. It's not hard to figure out the differences. Get this:

It's huge and crazy expansive.

And if V-Ray for Maya is good enough for the new Tron, I think it's good enough for most projects :p

The nightlies aren't GPU enabled (yet). It's still very fast with CPU...

Doesn't seem to be in the mac builds yet. V-Ray RT has a vray.exe process when doing it's thing. I'm sure there will be one when the proper beta starts. But this thing for where it's at now is very impressive.

ya, I spoke to Vladimir and he said they are just sorting an issue with the Mac build

Hey, thanks a lot for the links and the useful info.

We were thinking on getting some licenses, but we are not sure if we should wait until vray 2.0 is released, or we could just update it when its released?

Yeah, I bought 1.5 a few weeks ago, anyone know if recent purchase will qualify for an upgrade or how much it will cost? I think RT is a separate module anyway isn't it so I expect that will be a paid upgrade definitely

ya, I'm a little worried about the upgrade price. I'd wait for purchases until 2.0 comes out.

And when do you think that's going to be?? I can't find any info on the net.

No idea. But, if I had to guess, I'd say October.

Thanks Dave.

Seems like some folks here have tested it. Has anyone tried it within Shave and Haircut?
