eh option 2?
Sorry, just busting your chops a bit. You were vague and gave no needed information (not even which graphics card) so I thought I would do the same.

simple: don't span starcraft (or any games for that matter) across both monitors;)

That isn't true.
Full screen games won't span. When they open a fullscreen mode from the Windows mode list it will only be on one monitor. If it is a windowed application, then there is no reason why it can't run on a true spanned desktop (one framebuffer scanned out to two monitors).
Some more details on his HW, software config, and what mode starcraft is trying to run would be helpful. I can't believe starcraft is smart enough to include the entire mode list or modes that are beyond what they are expecting with thier 2D heads up display/GUI elements.

Why don't you just disable your 2nd monitor when you play starcraft ?

Sounds like you're using Dual View. I've been using Nview's span and aside from some minor annoyances, I've run into fewer problems like yours. I have Starcraft and it's never caused a problem cause the second monitor automatically shuts itself down when the game starts up.
