i just got back from the seattle based evolve tour and it was pretty cool, some of the new features are awesome, but they didn't get around to going over some of the stuff i wanna see

it was only 2 hours, was a bit rushed, but fun none the less

wish they they'd have more stops in the South U.S. Dallas and Miami are pretty far away.

I went to the one in Raieigh, North Carolina last night. Got to see the new mental ray integration. (I'm a big mental ray fan.) They did not show much, but from what I saw it sure is better than the old max/mr connection. They also showed Anark studio 2, it was very slick as well.

It was held in a microbrewery... Discreet was buying free beers for anyone that wanted one. They were giving away a lot of cool prizes. I even won a turbosquid shirt. Overall it was a fun night. If you are a mr or a max fan, it is really worth the time.

Went to the Seattle one last night [at DigiPen, pretty cool place]. After signing in and grabbing my free Discreet bag [full of promotions and even a little max 6 pin] I sat down and noticed we were late, but didn't miss any of the 3ds max 6 stuff. I forgot the guy's name that was showing it off, but he’s damn good.

Highlights of the night...

Vertex Weighing - Able to copy them over from one side of the character to another. Also, even if you have arms that aren't attached to the character [he showed us Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell] you can copy the weights over and max will figure it out, even if they have different vert counts.

Vertex Painting - Improved. He painted a girls face up with a couple different tones, then he would blur the vertex paint, and start another layer, blur that, and keep going. Worked almost like Photoshop.

Mental Ray - Integrated like is was going out of style. Showed off some caustic renders and toon renders and showed how built in it was. Basically, if no one told you Mental Ray is there, you would never know.

Particle Flow - Completely event based driven. Showed us a block of ice hitting a wall and breaking into pieces. Each piece emitting particles and particles emitting from the ice hitting the wall, and of course using Reactor 2 for all the collision.

Reactor 2 - looks faster and smoother then before. This was the highlight of the night for me. He took his Sam Fisher character and unwrapped his cloths with Reactor 2. Basically, he cut the cloth on the back, slapped on Reactor 2 and let the cloth fall to the ground. Then using the interactive Reactor window, he unfolded any little corners that were over lapped. That was it, he was ready to take that into Photoshop and paint it.

Pretty cool night. Free food and red bull. Wish is was longer cause he had a lot more to show but ran out of time.
