What specifically do you want to know? That's a little like asking "How do I model a character?"

Yeah, Mark is right. It is a little vague. But night time scenes are all about the color scheme you use. Cool colors, like blues and greens and purples even for light sources. It is all about observation. What does the nighttime look like outside your window? Softer shadows or none at all? Are they all swallowed up in other types of darkness? Things like that need to be addressed.

On another note, I would hate to meet a giant techno-pumpkin head like that in a dark alley.

Hi,

Specifically, what I wanted to get some feedback on was the general dark ambiance of the scene

Basically, in maya , how do you get a dark moonlight ambiance going while at the same time being able to see all the city buildings

I assume lots of light linking is involved

small tip:

there is a "trick" (often u can see it in hollywood movies) how to lit "dark atmosphere" scenes and yet be able to see objects. you put dark blue lights in dark areas of your scene and you will get darkness, but yet well lit environment... (u must try it)

(there is a text about it in "Digital Lighting & Rendering" book if you can put your hands on it)

hope this helps a little bit

cheers

Dark blue lights and add in a bit of red and purple in a little shade for highlighted areas. Light linking can accomplish this easily if directions of lighting becomes a problem.. Hmmmm there should be a tutorial on this...
