View Full Version : Hardware: Perspective Viewport Problem HELP!

Hi Guys,
I've just come across a really wierd problem in max. I was working on a scene, when I imported a model (.3ds). When I went to move, scale or rotate this model, it makes the perspective viewport (or even the camera view, for that matter) go completely blank. There is nothing I can do to restore it. I've tried changing video drivers (even the software driver!) but the problem still persists. I can switch another viewport to camera or perspective, but if I try to pan/ rotate in that viewport, it goes blank!
It only happens in this particular max scene, no other.

Any ideas? I'm going crazy, and have to get this project done...

Thanks in advance...

Edit: By the way, I'm using Max 5.1

I think your scale is too small or too large. Have you experimented with viewport clipping?

Hey, 3DZealot,
Thanks for the reply. I think you were right. When I deleted the 3ds model from the scene, everything returned back to normal.

I edited the model by itself and discovered that it was a mess of different grouped objects. Yuck! I fixed it up, scaled it correctly, and now it's all right! No need to panic afterall!

Thanks!

Awsome, dude!

Yeah, .3ds imports usually wreak of model creation in another software package. Max has a very strange native scale, and often objects imported into max need to be scaled to the proper size.

Remeber, though, that in order for the scale to work with dynamics and some forms of lighting, the scale must be correct at the VERTEX level, not the transform level.

If you even need to check, convert your units to something you are used to(metric or english units), and go into the object's properties dialog. Check to make sure the scale is right there. That's where it counts!

Anyway, glad it worked out for you! And, seeing as you are new here, welcome to cgtalk!
