My tastes lead me to wanting to see the eyes differently though...
[sickly] Yellow to the rim of the eyes, where there's a thin red outline and bloodd shot veins returning inward to a a center punctuated w/ a small black or red pupil.

Nice one, pretty freaky.

It looks like the Koala on the news last night that survived a roasting in a recent bush-fire.

Thats the scariest damn bear I have ever seen!

Hi guys-

Thanks for the comments and crits! The art direction was a mutated, pissed off and VERY dangerous Koala...

Array: It was done, start to finish in PhotoShop7.

Never underestimate a koala, man, they're VICIOUS, SAVAGE, WILD little beasties.

Dead serious-- you ever see some of those biologists trying to catch one on TV? They gotta get a bag over it on the end of a really long pole... and as soon as it's in it just goes NUTS!

ANYway! :D

Totally cool pic, I love the contrast of those crazed greenglob kinda-rotten-olive eyes. The background kinda bugs me though, there's not quite enough contrast between the monster and those splats behind it-- at first glance they don't look so much like splats as something sticking up out of its back like the fur on its shoulder.

I'm interested to hear how you set up this piece, what kind of reference you might've looked for to do it...

I like the background to me it seems he's been doing a spot of drawing (like Ralph Steadman) after a big fight. I had a look at your site as well to see if there was anything else about Menace Manual. That Clown was a moment of inspiration, definately one of those evil clowns (Stephen King - IT.)

Can you tell us a bit more about what Menace Manual is and where it can be bought/seen etc.

Man I really love this...can you tell us a little about how you got that darker splotchy effect on the skin, and what techniques did you use to create the spray and splatter effects?

You really succeeded in what you set out to achieve.

A very violent, scary and angry monster bear. The scars really add to the character of this guy, to suggest its been fighting or hunting. I can see this creature in a horror flick, it would make a killer monster.

Is this an actual Dropbear? I mean, is this really what a Dropbear would look like on The Last Continent of XXXX?

You gotta, just gotta tell me!!! Are you using a Terry Pratchett novel as inspiration? Please say yes, please say yes, please say...

If you are, then this is not how I pictured them at all. Don't get me wrong, I think this work is nothing short of very detailed, inspired and just cartooney enough to get me doing a little jig (a little jig is a compliment as I don't dance...ever!)

I just gotta know if this is Discworld inspired cause I get excited when I meet another fan who knows that more authors come out of the UK than R. K. Rowling.

A big Canadian "Good day, eh!" to yah! Keep it up!

I use Photoshop 7. I have a whole slew of textures, splaters, ink blotches, etc... that I draw from. I achieve the textured look by layering textures, hand painted areas and splatters. It sounds like more trouble than it is.

That's one scary bear! The best thing about it I think is the skin textures, absolutely love it, especially around the arm.

I think the eyes add to the character imo, very freaky looking and I think that's exactly what you were going for ;)

was the concept based on a koala bear? but it's very scarry, d rendering makes it scarry, successful rendering! try putting darker bg, might work as a very scarry scene
