View Full Version : Merging & Material swaping
TheWriter 09-25-2003, 08:27 PM Im not sure if this is a bug or an over-look. I am trying to merge another model into my level. However, Max keeps striping off the texture and adding a different material to it. I have checked, and the material name & model name of the item to be merged does not seem to clash with anything else in my level. So what is it that could be going wrong here? I do not remember this issue happening before on me.

HHummn, that sucks..
Things to try:
Save and then load a simple material library form the source file.
Simplify the source file (if possible), like save selected the obj needed, then open that file and re-save, then do the merge thang.
& finally and most desparately, merge the other way.
Hope you gets it one way or annuder!

This gets almost more weirder. If I merge my single object into another level, it seems to work. But when I merge it to the specific level I need it in, the texture on it screws up to hell. I cant tell if it is even a different texture replaced to it, or a pixelation of it's own texture. But if I use the eyedroper tool, and click on it, the proper texture gets droped into the material editor. But dragging it back to the object results in no change. So I am confused. To make things more puzzling, if I then reset the max scene to start afresh, and merge the single object into that blank scene, the texture is still messed up. It's like... once max gets bugged, the bug stays even when you refresh the scene.
Another hack is to copy all the faces off the object as a new obj, then delete the original and re-test.
Sometimes a trip out in .3ds format, followed by a re-import will fix corrupted geometry.
Any Luck?
