View Full Version : How to use iff-files with z-Buffer in Shake

hi everyone

is it possible to use the zbuffer of a maya iff file in shake as a mask, eg in order to desaturate an image.
if so, how can i access the zbuffer. its stored as a channel in the iff files.

Which channel? The Z channel? You could just do a reorder node. and plug the z into the a. Does that make sense? So your output of the reorder node would be RGBZ.

I dont use maya so I dont know how the .iff format is constructed, but does that really work? I mean it's not a scalar channel like the alpha which can be viewed normally is it?
Just a humble question, it sounded too easy :p

Yes, any channel can be reordered to any channel in shake. I have used the z as an alpha/mask many times.
